RT-AX89X going out of memory every 10 minutes (asd process?)

Hello, my router froze up overnight, so I rebooted it, and ever since the logs are showing that it is going OOM about every 10 minutes. First it starts spamming:

Then it looks like a high memory killer kicks in and kills a process called asd:

 Looking back at when the router locked up initially overnight, it seems like it tried to look for a firmware update automatically around 4am, (which is strange because I have auto updates turned off), then started spamming the 'NBUF alloc failed' message:

Very well could be the issue as the timestamp on that file is early AM 5/17/2023 Central time US.  I would like to see a Asus statement about this.   

@palito007 - the chknvram helped free up memory - but I was still getting high memory usage AND cpu usage (from the ASD process) even with a newly downloaded file (within 15 minutes) - I was oddly enough seeing the out of space errors even though there was no filesytem OR memory constraints at the time, not sure why it was still puking on this.... so i still needed to stop the ASD process for now (else, no internet at all after some time).  For now, I am in 2 plus hours and the ecosystem is staying around 40% memory util, with about 5% cpu.  Glad you are able to get stability with just the new file.  (And hoping I didn't just open a huge security risk by stopping the ASD process for now).  As others have mentioned, I'd really like to see a response from ASUS on this.  

This worked for me also. I am still sitting around 50% ram usage but it is stable. I left it up for several hours and rebooted it about an hour ago just to do it, and I am still running stable at this point.

The issue appears resolved for me. I rebooted my main RT-AC88U and it eventually downloaded the latest asd nvram file with today's date.

Although I've got an Asus RT-AC66U B1, the same problem started for me yesterday (5/17) around 07:00am, shortly after that Signature Update was applied automatically.

Had I remembered to check the router's logs, I could have figured out the problem a lot sooner.

After researching all error messages from my modem it finally led me to the router to check for any firmware updates.

After downloading and manually updating to firmware v.3.0.0.4.386.51665 then rebooting the router, it's been up and running with no error messages for the last 3 hours.   Yay!   😀

An Asus tech reached out to me regarding the ticket I submitted and suggested updating to the beta firmware.

Below is the text of their email to me. I've seen this solution floated around, but some question the validity. I wanted to give some more credence to the following URL as it came directly from an ASUS tech to me.

Dear customer,
 
I have already downgraded the firmware to.I saved portions of the system logs from the previous firmware and attached those to the email with the feedback form.
 
Sorry for the inconvenience. Would you mind giving below beta firmware a trial and see if it helps or not?

Yes, no issues with the beta for the AX89X other than noting there is a graphical issue with the Dual WAN page (I don't use one, just noted the issue). But note it is reported as in-progress file from one of the developers, not an official release.   So given that the file deletion step seems to be working for folks, and an another workaround or two, that would be the safest route to try first.

Thanks for sharing that as it helps validate the beta on SNB forums is legitimately from the devs.
