Hello,
I have a problem with this brand new GT-BE98: LAN1/WAN 2,5Gb doesn't work as WAN, it always says "cable not connected".
I already tried to factory reset multiple times, even after firmware update, but no success.
If I switch WAN to 10Gb port the Router is able to connect to internet and LAN1/WAN 2,5Gb works without any issue. So I assume it's a firmware bug since the port is working as LAN.
I already contacted ASUS Support by phone and I also sent them an email to explain this issue with screenshot attached. They sent my case to ASUS specific department but after some time they replied that they found no firmware issue.
Anyway I still have the problem and I can't figure out how I could fix this sh*t.

Please be patient with me.
There are so many Ethernet ports in the back, one time a very long time ago I inserted the connection in the wrong port then proceeded to worry why my speed was “wrong”.
I see VLAN settings. (I do not use VLANs). I would suggest to turn off all VLANs first. Move WAN to desired port, set up as WAN, then rebuild VLAN. (Have you tried this already)? Can you please elaborate what you have tried?

Hello, thank you for your reply.
Well, the “SDN (VLAN) Profile” setting you see in the first screenshot is not editable. The dropdown menu simply doesn’t open. So I didn’t change anything about VLAN.
I already tried to factory reset the router twice, but with no success.
Before this router I was using a RT-AXE16000 with the same ONT, same cable and same ISP settings and I never had any issue at all.
This is my ONT:
This is a very frustrating issue since I NEED to use the 10Gb port as LAN and not as WAN.

The factory reset you did, involved holding the WPS button down?
I used the AXE16000 for a couple of years. It was used with both the 2.5 and 10 GB WANs without issue. Now, the BE98 Pro does not seem to want to use the 10 GE WAN for Ethernet or Fiber.
ASUS has been sent logs from several different users, of problems involving the WAN ports. Hopefully, something will be released soon to deal with them.

Hi @Saltgrass ,
I performed the factory resets from Router WebGUI.
I always used WebGUI to setup my router and, yes, there is an "Advanced" option to manually type ISP parameters.
Also if possible post screenshot of Connessione ad Internet tab please.

If you hard/factory reset with WAN/LAN1 connected to ONT, computer connect to LAN2, LAN3, or LAN4. (No other connections to router except the two). Then you try Advanced Setup, it does not recognize the WAN/LAN1 connected?

Exactly. I tried a bunch of times but 2,5WAN/LAN1, when selected as WAN, always shows a "Cable not connected" error.
The yellow box you reported is a setting about Internet auto-disconnect. I set to 0 because I want an always active WAN connection.

Uh, what if you try 300 seconds? That 0 is my concern, just humor me for 5 minutes…
EDIT- Always active would be infinite, plus the server will disconnect you when it detects no activity per Internet Service Provider rule. If ASUS says nothing wrong please try some non-0 number here, or may I ask what did you change it from (Default)? I understand some routers may say “0 = always leave active” but this router only says “(in seconds)”. I’m afraid 0 forces disconnect immediately for this router. Maybe for 10 GbE port there is a bug and 0 works there, but not here….

I use ASUS router since ages and I know their settings very well.
Anyway, here it is the explanation about that setting:
So 0 is an acceptable value, it was the same on my previous AXE16000 and on AC88U as well.

So, you are showing the red light on the router for the WAN connection. I haven't seen anything in your settings that might look strange, but I don't have Fiber so I rely on you to get those settings correct.
Something that is suggested in the install instructions is to power down the Modem (or whatever the router connects to) and wait 2 minutes. Once the two minutes is up, you and can power up the device and hope the ISP will recognize the router and connect for a WAN IP address.
My 10 GE port has been connected for almost 3 days after using the above procedure. I will shortly, reboot the router to see if it reconnects by itself.
Make sure and check the 2.5 GE port for damage. I don't remember if you stated your Fiber speed, but hopefully, it is less than 2.5 Gbps.
And just for fun:
