Problems with GT-AX11000. Recommendations, even for a different router?

So not sure if I should post this here or over in the general Asus community..

So I've been having an issue lately with my GT-AX11000 router dropping the internet connection, and acting as if it is rebooting. I have attempted to upgrade the firmware as it was 2 versions behind the current version, but each time I attempted it failed. Whether I was doing it wirelessly or wired direct to the router. Figuring I'd live with it for the time being while researching new routers, I was (in)conveniently thrust into making that decision sooner than expected.

Just this evening the router did another drop/reboot but seemed stuck in the boot process. The ROG logo on top cycling through the colors with only the power button illuminated. I attempted to log in via the GUI while hardwired but no dice. 😞 I even followed Asus' instructions for a hard reset with apparently the same results.

Luckily I still have my trusty RT-AC86U I had 'downgraded' to being a AI Mesh Node so I can still get by for the next few days, however it brings to question what I should do.

From what I've described above, is there another process to force a hard reset on the GT-AX11000? Or does it sounds as though it is done for? IF the latter, any recommendations from you all on a good AI Mesh router to link with the trusty RT-AC86u I have? My house is roughly 4000 SF spread over 2 floors.

Hi @zoludwo2 ,

I understand that you're experiencing connectivity issues with your GT-AX11000 router, including automatic restarts and difficulties with hard resets.

Here are some potential solutions you can try:

Software-related solutions:

  1. Firmware update: Check for any new firmware versions and try updating. New firmware often fixes known issues and improves stability.
  2. ASUSWRT settings reset: Restore the router's settings to factory defaults and reconfigure it. This can help rule out software conflicts or misconfigurations.
  3. Disable unnecessary services: Disable unnecessary services like VPN, AiProtection, etc., to see if it improves stability.
  4. Check firewall settings: Ensure your firewall is not blocking the router's normal operation.

Hardware-related solutions:

  1. Check power: Ensure the power cord is plugged in securely and try a different outlet. If you have a surge protector, try plugging the router directly into the wall outlet.
  2. Check cooling: Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the router to prevent overheating.
  3. Check hardware connections: Check that all connections, especially the network cable and power cord, are secure.

If the above methods do not resolve the issue, consider sending the router to ASUS service center for further inspection.

Thank you.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.
