Different Internet Speeds - ROG Strix G16CHR

Hello!

My dad and I recently each purchased a new ROG Strix: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-gaming-desktop-intel-core-i7-14700kf-32gb-memory-nvidia-geforc...

For internet service we pay for 2 gig through Xfinity and are both connected via ethernet cable, no Wifi.

When my dad runs an internet speed test he regularly gets 1700 mbps download speed, even over 2000 at times. My results are typically in the 900 mbps range.

Having the same exact computer and internet service, it seems strange to get such different results. The only real difference would seem to be that he is in the same room as the modem with a short ethernet cable, while I am at the other end of our small house with a high-quality maybe 100ft Cat 8 cable running outside the house from his window to mine.

Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks for your help!!

Hi @sarahgirl243 ,

Based on the issue you raised, there could be several reasons for this discrepancy. We recommend you check the following:

  1. Ensure that your network card drivers are up to date. Outdated or problematic drivers can affect network performance.
  2. Make sure the network cable you are using is of Cat6a or higher specification and is not damaged.
  3. There may be network issues in your area causing unstable internet speed.
  4. We also recommend contacting Xfinity customer support for further assistance.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Thank you.

Please note that response times may be delayed due to upcoming regional holidays. For urgent inquiries, please contact your local service center. Thank you for your patience.

Some ISP routers have very few 2.5g ports, make sure you are connected to one.

Ex: I only have one, the others are 1gig ports so i generally won't go over 950mbps while tranfering stuff around.

Have you tried changing network ports so troubleshoot it?
