Binded devices can't use 5GHZ

vitaobr92

I have 2x RT-AX82U using AIMESH, being one node at living room e other not in my office. If I bind a device to one of the nodes, it can't connect to 5GHZ network anymore (the device still show the network but fail to connect).

I tested this with more than one device (TV, tablet, cellphone) and this behavior is the same, so I don't think the problem is the devices. My router is in the latest update (ASUS RT-AX82U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_25017).

Is this a normal behavior from router (device not being able to use 5GHZ when binded to a node)?

Hi @vitaobr92 ,

We sincerely apologize for the delayed response due to the recent holiday, as we were out of the office.

Regarding your issue, we would like to confirm the following points:

  1. Try manually setting different channels to avoid overlapping between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
  2. Ensure the distance between the devices and nodes is appropriate to avoid weak signals.
  3. Remove obstacles around the nodes, such as walls and metal objects, to improve signal transmission.
  4. Is your current network environment consisting of one main router and two nodes? Please provide the complete network architecture.
  5. Test if a single main router with one node can operate normally. Does the issue only occur with a specific node?
  6. We recommend performing a hard reset on the node. You can refer to the FAQ below for instructions. [Wireless Router] When Standard Reset Isn’t Working: Hard Factory Reset - Models list | Official Sup...

We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Thank you.

I apologize for the late response.

The 2.4G and 5G networks were already set to different channels.

The setup consists of a MODEM and two NODES, as you mentioned. All wired (modem to node 1 and node 1 to node 2 using backhaul only 1GB WAN)

The issue occurs on both nodes. I can connect to both 2.4G and 5G networks normally, but as soon as I bind a device to a node, that device can no longer connect to the 5G network, only 2.4. It detects the network, tries to connect, but fails.

I will try a hard reset and get back to you to confirm if it worked or not.

Thank you very much. Again, I apologize for the delayed response.

Hi @vitaobr92 ,

Thank you for your reply.

If the issue persists after performing a hard reset, please submit a system report to us as soon as the issue occurs again. This will help our engineering team analyze your problem more efficiently.

Please follow the steps below to report the issue, and we will assist you:

  1. Connect your device (PC, laptop, etc.) to the router, then open the Web management interface (http://router.asus.com/) and log in to your router.
  2. Click on "System Administration" and select "Problem Report."
  3. Fill in your region, email address (required), ASUS service/case number, issue type, and a description of the issue.
  4. Please read and agree to the privacy policy and relevant service terms.
  5. Click "Send" to submit your form.

Additionally, please send us the following information via private message: product serial number, the time the problem report was submitted, the email used for the problem report, the time the issue occurred, the MAC address of your device, and a network architecture diagram of your current environment.

If your network is down, the UI page will generate a link for downloading offline data. Please click the link to download the data, compress it into a ZIP file, and provide a cloud link for us to analyze.

Thank you for your cooperation.
