ASUS ROG Rapture AX-11000 router not detecting USB External HDD

Hi all,

So I was using a HDD (NTFS) via the USB port for awhile. Transferring files over Samba and all used to be no issue. One fine day, I decided to unmount it to transfer some files on the PC since it was much faster. After a few weeks, I mounted the HDD into the router again. I saw that the HDD LED light lighted up for a second and it disappeared. HDD was also not vibrating. Looked into network drive, no drive detected. Checked router system page, no drive detected. Switched off / on the FTP and Samba options in the router page but still no different.

Plugged the HDD into my PC, and it works fine. Switched the router off and restarted it with the HDD connected, the HDD led light lighted up for 2 instances and died again. Tried another HDD (exFat) but the HDD still doesnt work.

Anyone has any idea what is causing this?

Hi @5ROGli ,

Thank you for your feedback.

To better assist you with the issue of your ASUS ROG Rapture AX-11000 router not detecting the USB external hard drive, we would like you to confirm the following:

  1. Hard drive format: Please ensure that your external hard drive is formatted in NTFS or FAT32, as these are the most supported formats for the router.
  2. USB port testing: We suggest you try connecting the hard drive to a different USB port on the router (such as USB 3.0 or USB 2.0) to rule out the possibility of a faulty USB port.
  3. Other device testing: We suggest you try connecting another USB storage device (such as a USB flash drive) to the router to confirm if the router's USB function is working properly.
  4. Firmware update: Please ensure that your router's firmware is up to date. You can update it by logging into the router's management interface.
  5. Factory reset: If the above methods do not solve the problem, we recommend that you reset the router to its factory settings and reconfigure the USB sharing function.
  6. Hard drive health check: We recommend that you connect the hard drive to a computer and use a tool to check for bad sectors or other issues.
