I have the Z790-I with an i7 1400K cpu, running 1303 revision bios. Been ahving some issues connecting my thunderbolt display so I decided to update to the 1801 revision bios. Once I did that it wouldn't boot, the fans would spin up and down on repeat, and the red Q-LED light was on indicating a CPU issue.
So I rolled back to 1303 and it's working again, but I likely will continue to have issues with my display. Would love some advice.
More information on the display issue:
I am using an Apple Studio Display connected to one of the thunderbolt ports. This works pretty well but occasionally the system stops booting. Sometimes the display backlight will turn on but won't display anything. Plugging in another monitor (with USB-C to DVI connector) seems to get it to boot again. The only other thing I noticed was that the Thunderbolt Control Center would list the studio display, but say that it's not connected (even though it is and I am using the computer with it)
TIA everyone!

I'm debugging the exact same problem trying to get an Apple Studio Display to work, I've seen other users reporting success, haver you tried enabling the intergrated GPU on the BIOS? I saw that on this guide https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/172hve1/guide_apple_studio_display_on_itx_pc_windows_11/

Hey thanks for sharing. I was looking at this guide earlier, too. In my case it just seems like thunderbolt isn’t being detected by windows anymore. I just tried reinstalling windows too.

I just got it to work! I'm on firmware 0703 though, I had to enable iGPU in the BIOS

Nice one! Where was that in the bios? Can you show me a photo of it?

Hello, @didlix
If you require iGPU activation, please refer to the instructions in [Motherboard] How to enable iGPU Multi-Monitor for dual-screen display or consult page 61 of the ROG STRIX Z790 Series BIOS Manual (English Edition).
Please go to BIOS > Advanced Mode > Advanced > System Agent (SA) Configuration and set "iGPU Multi-Monitor" to [Enabled].
Regarding thunderbolt, we suggest checking if the NVM firmware requires an update.
Thank you.

Hey @Jiaszzz_ROG thanks for your reply!
how do I check if the nvm firmware requires an update? I do suspect that it’s been left in a bad state after my original failed bios update. If I can reflash it to get it working again that would be excellent.
