Z790 hero dark issues installing new OS

Hello, just got a new build. Intel 14900k, 128gig ddr5 dominator, 2tb Samsung 980 pro. I tried installing windows 11 using the windows media usb method. Once I get past the product key part My pc restarts, happens all the time. I bared boned it, just using 1 stick of ram no gpu. I tried two different media usbs and same result. Any thoughts on what it could be? I also tried 7 different NVMs brand new, same result. What am I doing wrong here? installing windows is pretty straight forward, If I am creating the USB media from another computer it shouldnt matter that I am using it for my new pc should it? Its just the OS and not the drives etc... Many thanks in advance.

Hello @EZLNH8U

Can you confirm if you're using XMP? If so, please revert to Optimised Defaults and attempt the install again.

XMP is off, everything is reverted to defaults. I still get a restart 😞

So I purchased the same Mobo, and now I can install windows… ughh that other motherboard was new as well. Maybe a faulty batch one?

Now I have windows installed, added my 4090 gpu, updated drivers, but now every time I launch a Steam game as soon as it’s going into the game, the systems takes me back to my desktop and closes the game. I have the latest game ready drivers for my card… any suggestions? Specs listed.

Again, given the memory density, I would test with XMP disabled initially. CTD events are quite often due to unstable RAM.

After you've confirmed, we'll look at trying to dial it in. However, please ensure it's a single memory kit. See here for more information

Thanks for the input. I will try this when I get home and report back.

Xmp is disabled. I tried running all my steam games, they launch until about the first image … than kicks me out. I was able to run haven bench mark after a while with no issues. I’m so confused.

1. Update UEFI to 2602

2. Under Extreme Tweaker > Set  Intel Default setting to Performance.

3. In Windows, go to Event Viewer > Application and check event logs for error codes after CTD events occur.

Do not change any other parameters. If the instability continues, you will likely need to contact Intel support.

Thank you, I will try that. I have notice that in event viewer I have a lot of red flags. Especially with metadata errors.
