Z790 HERO - cannot connect to WiFi 6e

Hello all,

For about a month now I have bought an ASUS RT-AXE7800, especially for the WiFi 6e functionality for my ASUS Z790 HERO motherboard. Unfortunately, most of the times I cannot connect to the WiFi 6e. The SSID is not shown in the list of available networks, but from time to time (upon reboot), it connects and stays connected. I would say 5 out of 6 times it is NOT connecting. ASUS support has been pointless, I already tried everything they suggested before opening the ticket and then they closed it without notification.

Googling the problem, I can see that a lot of people complain about the same issue, I am suspecting that it's the Intel WiFi/Bluetooth  chipset (AX211) that is the problem, but it would be good to have a confirmation. Anyone has faced the same problems?

Windows 11 PRO - 23H2 (up to date with the updates)

BIOS ver. 2801

After hard resetting to factory defaults the ASUS RT-AXE7800 router, it seems it's now connecting. Frustrating, but now there is a fix, hope this would help someone in the future.

How far is the router from the mainboard and are there walls etc. in between?

Are the WLAN antennas that come with the mainboard connected to the mainboard?

Is the current WLAN driver installed and are all other drivers up to date?

Does the router also have the latest firmware because the WLAN cannot be found?

Do you have other WIFI6e devices with the same problems?

1. Distance from the motherboard to the router is 3-4 meters, direct sight. When it connects, it reports full power. I think I can pull the dBm if needed, but I am pretty sure this is not a radio issue.

2. WLAN antennas that come with the mainboard are connected to the mainboard. The WLAN antennas has direct sight with the router.

3. The router has the latest official firmware.

4. I have two phones that connect without a problem to the router using WIFI 6e.

A little bit more information: I have just updated the WiFi driver to version 23.100.0.4 as it came out yesterday. First reboot after the driver installation failed to connect to WiFi 6e, but now on the second restart it has connected. Will give it a few more tries, I'll let you know how it goes.

Yeah, that didn't last long. Again failed to connect after reboot.

then it seems to be the ASUS RT-AXE7800 router.
Check whether there is a firmware update for the router.

The current version is 3.0.0.4.388_25127
