Z790-A GAMING WIFI II - High GPU idle temps after bios v1703 update

PartsGuy

Just updated my bios to the latest official stable v1703

Update went fine, no issue during the updated. Once in windows my GPU idle temps with no apps running went from 28c to 60c! Fans are spinning fast as well, when before they would either be OFF or run at like 5% speed at idle.

This is definitely not normal. I've built a lot of systems and never seen GPU temps double after motherboard bios update. CPU temps didn't change.

System:

Z790 Gaming-A WiFi II
Intel 13900K (not overclocked, all default settings since day 1, all Intel limits enforced)
Gskill 32x2 6400
v1703 BIOS
Nvidia 4090
Nvidia 566.14 driver

Hello @PartsGuy

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Could you please confirm the brand and model of your GPU, and if you are referring to the Founders Edition as you mentioned the Nvidia 4090?
Additionally, which PCIe slot is it installed in, and have you used an extension cable or adapter?
What software are you using to monitor the GPU's temperature and fan speed, such as Armoury Crate or GPU-Z?
We recommend clearing CMOS under BIOS version 1703, then booting directly into the system to check the GPU's idle temperature and fan speed.
Kindly ensure that the vBIOS is updated to the latest version provided by the supplier.

Thank you.
