I have an NVME enclosure with a 970 Pro inside, using a thunderbolt 4 cable and plugging it into the usb 3.2 gen 2 port in the back and I'm only hitting 1500MB/s write speeds.
I understand I need a thunderbolt 4 header if I wanted to take advantage of the thunderbolt 4 speeds (I just can't justfy spending that amount of money) but am I right in saying 1500MB/s is the cap for usb 3.2 gen 2?
The water is intentionally muddy here, people say different things. But from what I've gathered 1500mbs is the absolute max I'm going to get out of this board.
Thanks

Hello, @onlyoneeon
May I ask if you are inquiring about the PRIME Z690-P WIFI?
According to the specs, USB 3.2 Gen 2 (USB-A) has a transfer speed of 10Gbps (about 1250MB/s), and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (USB-C) has a transfer speed of 20Gbps (about 2500MB/s).
Please check if your external hard drive's firmware or drivers are up-to-date, or try cross-testing with other devices.
Also, consider if the motherboard BIOS needs an update.
Meanwhile, ROG forum is dedicated to discussing gaming models, such as the ROG or TUF series, and the category of Gaming Audio pertains to audio accessories.
We recommend visiting our Zentalk forum, where there are dedicated moderators who can assist you with the difficulties you are facing on the PRIME motherboard.
Thank you.
