Hello
Wondering if anyone noticed in the new bios versions for the z690 Hero (tried 3701,3801,3901) even running default everything but high performance energy option in windows my core clock speeds drop to 799/800mhz
Did the same on any 2602,2703 and 2802 default and high performance energy in windows and they dont drop.
After i let AI core clocks run a couple runs i enable XMPII and thats my OC on all Bios versions. The 2xxx keep the clock speeds at what they are set but the 3xxx Bios versions dont. I checked speedstep and speedshift settings and they are enabled in both 2xxx and 3xxx. I did try disableing them but it changes nothing... Any clue whats changed in the 3xxx? I have gone back and forth between 2xxx and 3xxx to test stuff without results.

Hello @dejan_
Thank you for reaching out to us.
According to your description, your built PC experiences CPU core under-clocking during idle time under BIOS versions 3701, 3801, and 3901, while this issue does not occur under versions 2602, 2703, and 2802. Also, there were no other manual BIOS settings adjustments made aside from enabling memory overclocking.
Besides the under-clocking during idle time, are there any other issues you’ve experienced? For example, does the CPU continue to throttle during use after being idle, or have you encountered any blue screens?
If possible, please share the following information to help us further confirm the situation:
- the OS version, OS build, and the image of BIOS main-page
- the brand, model and installation slots or ports of the GPU, RAM (part number well), SSD/HDD, and PSU
- how do you verify that the CPU is throttling during idle time, how long does it take for throttling to occur, and is this situation happening consistently?
Please share screenshots or video recordings of the results.
Thank you.

Lets see, my games would just randomly shut down and i had a couple issues with my monitor turning off. I can see that the pc is working and if im in discord i'd hear people and they hear me but the monitor was without signal and wouldnt turn on before I did a reboot
Windows 11, 23H2
Z690 Hero
12900KS
G.Skill DDR5 6400Mhz 16x4GB
RTX 4090 TUF Gaming
Firecuda 530 2TB
I have installed the 26032BIOS now and cannot show you the 800mhz issue, but i use HWMonitor to show me the clock speeds along with the Ryujin III where both display the 800mhz.
As mentiond I ran both 2602 and any of the 3xxx Bios builds in both identical OC and in factory defaults and the 3xxx versions would have the 800mhz issue along with the other random issues. During games and stress tests ****** wont drop to 800mhz what I could tell, it only happens durring Idle usage

Hello @dejan_
Due to differences in BIOS versions, certain parameters, such as the default XMP overclocking settings, may vary.
Based on the information you provided, the ROG MAXIMUS Z690 HERO does not list the "G.Skill DDR5 6400Mhz 16x4GB" in QVL:
Additionally, the stability of memory overclocking is influenced by the installed CPU, motherboard, PSU, and the memory itself.
Given this, you may consider staying with the older BIOS version that allows stable overclocking, manually adjusting the overclocking settings (instead of applying the default XMP profile) in the new BIOS version, or cross-testing with memory from the QVL.
Please refer to the purchasing and installation guide on the Memory page and Memory Kits - Overclocking and What You May Not Know if needed.
Thank you.

It supports 2x16 but not 4x16 wierdly
However i have tried it with no xmp and 1/2/4 ram sticks issue is still there

Hello @dejan_
The QVL list indicates support for 2x 16GB, which means this memory model is two modules in a kit.
In this situation, kindly refer to the 'purchasing and installation guide' indicated by the arrow in the above image.
However, based on your description, when installed with a single RMA module in the DIMM_A2 slot, the frequency still drops even without enabling XMP. Could you please provide the complete memory part number? Did you confirm the memory frequency in the BIOS or within the OS? Does this issue occur under specific circumstances, such as after gaming for 30 minutes (any possibility due to overheating)?
We recommend clearing CMOS after updating to the latest BIOS version 3901 and not making any manual adjustments to see if the memory frequency dropping still occurs.
If it does, please share the image of the BIOS main page and screenshot of the frequency-dropping results, along with a more detailed description of the situation.
Thank you.

I tried for 2 straight days to lock my clocks at fixed rate so they dont drop to 800mhz every 5 seconds I tried every combination of settings at the end it was BIOS version that caused it.
Downgraded to 2602 and everything was perfect fixed without even changing 1 setting in BIOS (2602 is the lowest BIOS version that support my cpu)

Yeah something is messed up with the later ones. 2602 has been super stable even with XMP and AI overclocking
