Hello guys, Happy new year!
I am starting the year with an issue regarding expo profile in my X870e Hero. I have the 9800x3d with one kit of 32gb Gskill 6000 cl30 which worked fine when i've comleted the build like 1 month and half ago. Expo was working fine, I was on bios 0606 for my motherboard and I had absolutly no issues. Few week ago I've got Cod BO6 and start playing and then I started seing crashing more and more, to the point where after a BSOD my gpu wasnt even detected, I had to reinstall the driver but it was still in the pc. Did a fresh install of W11 but no luck, same issues more and more. After some digging on reddit and here I've seen that the expo profile might cause these issues so i started testing the sticks one by one and I found that the ram is working with expo one by one, no issues were detected during tests. Both sticks were stable again and no problems in tests, BUT without expo. When i tried to enable that in bios, I would get intant bsod. I've updated to bios to 0706, did a clear CMOS and now, I am still using them at stock speeds but this time is a little different.
I've seen this issue on multiple people, when expo is enabled in bios 0706, it will not post at all. It will just push you into bios everytime you try and boot it. The only way I found to work (kinda) is it to activate expo profile from AMD Overclocking submenu and not from the Extremetweeker. Doing this, my pc restarted and memory training has began with code 15, everything looked fine but got the BSOD again.
At this point I don't know what to believe anymore if this is just a BIOS issue or RAM issue. The sticks are on the QVL list and they ran aboslutly fine before.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Problem solved. Motherboard was the issue!!!
Same motherboard, same setup, EXPO I enabled, ram was trained and booted with Windows with no problems. Now I just have to have this bad unit returned and get my money back.

How are you testing memory stability? It's important to keep in mind that EXPO is overclocking. QVL offers guidance to give users the best possible chance of "plug & play" overclocking, however, variance between parts exists.
Set: Set ADDR_CMD_MODE: buff
Set: Set FCLK VDCI Mode Pref to Predictive
(Use F9 search if unsure where to find)

tested it with the windows memtest, memtest86 and OCCT. When expo is on it will not even boot with 6000, yesterday it went to windows with 5600 but wasnt stable at all...
Will test this and get back with review

pc restarted and won’t boot into windows. Tried with expo from extreme tweeker and the one from amd overclocking submenu. Second option gives this bsod and can’t get past it. Bios started to freazing on me, had to restart the pc few times to revert it back to default speeds of 4800. My only guess at this point it’s that the ram itself is bad…I’ve ordered new kit and I hope this will fix it. Never seen this many problems appear from nowhere, no bios settings were changed from the moment I’ve completed the build. I was at bios 0606 from day one with this board, expo worked instantly with no issues whatsoever. Something happend in the meantime and I simply can’t understand what, and no one appears to know either…

Cool.
Considering it did work prior to installing the frame, my money is still on course and effect. At least you managed to get it resolved without issue. 👍
4 weeks ago
I had similar issues with a X870-I board. Was easier to buy another one and try, than constantly overcoming issue after issue. My 2nd board worked perfectly out of the box, so I returned and got a refund on the faulty board.

Hello @Silent_Scone
I've reverted to 0606 and the issue persist, system posted in safe mode image. Tried it with expo I and II, usually I worked just fine, at least it started actually booting into windows and bsod on the way.
There is actually no one who knows anything about this being an actual problem with this setup? For the past week i've done nothing but reading into this expo problem on am5 which is present for the past year or so.
I have ordered a new ram kit identical to the current one just to test if it is an actual hardware problem or its something else. I am genuinely so disappointed regarding the support on ASUS side regarding this because there is no one who actually knows what is going on with this situation. How can the pc work with no problem since day 1 and then after one month, errors start appearing from nowhere to the point I can't even use the functionalities i've paid for...

Struggling to follow your posts there. Did you try the amendments I suggested? EXPO is overclocking, no assurances, unfortunately.
With the amendments above, try raising VDD and VDDQ by 30 to 40mV.
If the problem occurred without any alterations to the system, may want to attempt to remount the CPU and cooler. Over-torquing or improper mount can impact signalling and memory OC.

Hello @Silent_Scone
Just to point it again that it worked with no issues whatsoever from day one. Last night I've started thinking again what I did different on the way and I remembered that on the end of November I've installed a contact frame and it worked like normal before that, but after some days the issues started to appear. Now I think that must be the cause, the amount of torque i did on these bolts it may be too much or too little.
About one hour ago I tighten these 4 screws on the contact frame a little more, no change. I completly took the frame out and the cpu, put it back again but still no change. I may be doing something wrong regarding these screws and I am not sure if I am doing too much or too little.
The AIO (Ryujin II 360) is mounted the same as the contact frame, finger tight plus just a bit after to make sure it is stable and not moving. It is the first time I am installing a contact frame and I remember when I took out the original one these screws were alot tighter than the ones i did myself on the new contact frame.
Could it be that is too tight or insufficient ?
Also want to point that after bios when expo is enabled, code 15 starts memory training for like 1-2 min and is followed by code EC, pc shuts off for 3-4 seconds and it boots back up with that image that it tried posting in safemode. I get back in bios and ram is still at 4800 but the expo settings are still there waiting to be applied.
I strongly believe that there is something about the contact frame causing these issues...
Edit: changed the VDD and VDDQ from 1.35 to 1.40, nothing changed. Took out the cable extenstions from the cpu, nothing changed. Cleared CMOS few times but no luck there aswell. Checked the contact frame again with lower tightening and higher after but no changes at all. If i take one ram out and i enable expo it boots no problem with 6000MT but two wont post with expo 6000 as they used to.
