X670E HERO: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD sometimes after booting

Hi,
I have a problem with my X670E HERO system. Sometimes after booting (regardless of whether it is a restart or a cold start) the system crashes. The interesting thing is that the system does not simply crash with a BSOD, but is "dead" first. The system is not frozen but no longer accepts commands (Explorer cannot be started, Task Manager can be started but the interface does not load completely), the start menu does not work and Steam throws an error message that Steamwebhelper could not be started. After 1-2 minutes the system constantly resets itself. A minidump was then stored in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder, which when read with WinDbg says that the system crashed due to DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f) (FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: 0x9F_3_amdi2c_DEV_AMDI0010_IMAGE_ACPI.sys). The problem does not occur every time you boot, but rather randomly, sometimes just once, sometimes several times in a row, so that you need several attempts before you get to a stable Windows. According to a report from the AMD forum, the problem is caused by Armoury Crate and the problem did not occur again for me after uninstalling it (but it is also possible that it just happened not to occur again during the test period). Since I have a custom water loop, I rely on Armoury Crate for fan control and cannot run my system for long without Armoury Crate. The problem has been occurring for over a year and even after several Windows reinstallations.

To address BSOD, please ensure that all drivers provided on the ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO support page are updated, and verify that there are no additional restrictions in the advanced power settings under Windows power mode.
Additionally, we recommend disabling Fast Boot in the BIOS and Fast Startup in the OS to check if the issue improves.

If concerned about the issue related to Armoury Crate, could you kindly record and provide the relevant logs for our further verification?
Additionally, we request that you simultaneously record a video demonstrating the issue and share it with us, allowing us to correlate the logs with the actual scenario more effectively.
For log operation steps, please refer to "Q5: What is App Diagnostics? (New Feature)" and ensure that you have confirmed and checked the "Record Log" option before proceeding with the steps to replicate the issue, such as the unsuccessful updating steps.

I disabled Fast Boot in both Windows and BIOS, but the BSODs still occurred. I've attached an Armoury Crate log and a Windows minidump of the BSOD. My Windows power options in the High Performance power plan, with the change that I disabled Selective USB Power Saving to temporary fix a hiccup problem in combination with the Thunderbolt controller.

Hi,

I can now confirm that the crashes are caused by Armoury Crate. I had uninstalled Armoury Crate for about a week (using the Armoury Crate Uninstall Tool) and the PC was running completely stable. I have just reinstalled Armoury Crate and when installing updates within Armoury Crate the PC became unstable again (no BSOD this time, but Explorer crashed, Task Manager does not load correctly and then stops responding and Windows no longer accepts commands such as CTRL+ALT+DEL). These symptoms also always occur before the BSODs. This time the crash did not occur when booting up, but probably due to the Armoury Crate services restarting due to the update. After I noticed that the Task Manager was no longer loading correctly, I was able to activate logs in Armoury Crate, which I will attach. It is possible that the logs are not complete because the crash has already been triggered.

While the investigation is underway, considering the possibility of software conflicts, could you please clarify whether any RGB lighting control, hardware control software (such as Liquid Cooling), or other system monitoring tools are installed on your current system?
Additionally, could you confirm whether all items in the AC Update Center were correctly updated at the time the issue occurred?
If possible, would you also be able to provide a video of the issue, from before to after it occurred, as well as screenshots of other hardware and software configurations?

Unfortunately, I couldn't start recording until the first symptoms started (error message "steamwebhelper is not responding", task manager is not starting correctly and start button is no longer responding), because only then was it clear that the problem was occurring. In the video it looks as if the desktop is not loading correctly, but this is not the case. I simply set black as the background color. At the end of the video you can see how the PC restarts without showing a visible BSOD. However, an entry is created in the Windows Event Viewer (BugCheck with the code 0x9f, BugCheck = Microsoft's internal name for blue screen, 0x9f = code for DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE) and a dump file was created in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder.

- Lian Li L-Connect 3 (problem existed before installing L-Connect 3)
- Razer Synapse 4 (problem also occurred under Synapse 3)
- GoXLR app
- Elgato Stream Deck software

After analyzing the Armoury Crate logs you previously provided, our relevant teams have not identified any abnormalities. As a result, we are currently attempting to replicate the issue based on your hardware configuration.
To assist with troubleshooting, could you confirm whether this behavior also occurs on a freshly installed system with only Armoury Crate installed—without any additional software such as Lian Li L-Connect 3, Razer Synapse 4, GoXLR app, Steam, or Discord?

I installed Windows 11 fresh on a different SSD (TS256GMTE110S) and only installed Armoury Create and the drivers required for the motherboard from the X670E HERO support page. The problem also occurred with this Windows installation. Before installing Windows, I reset the BIOS to the default settings. To automate the test, I had the system restart every 10 minutes using a batch file in the autostart, and after a few restarts the problem occurred. Interestingly, a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD occurred again, but this time it was not triggered by amdi2c but by HDAudBus.

A small note:
This time I downloaded and installed the drivers manually from the support page instead of using Armoury Crate, since the driver update function has been removed since version 6. I noticed that the driver for the Cypress UCM Client (ACPI\VEN_CYP&DEV_0002) is missing from the support page, which is why there is always an Unknown Device entry in the Device Manager.
