Continuing a post which started on MoKiChU's [DRIVERS] Realtek USB Audio (AMD 5xx/6xx/8xx & Intel 5xx/6xx/7xx/8xx) thread.
I recently built a new system around a ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI motherboard. The default Realtek drivers upon Windows 11 installation caused terrible distortion (over-amplification or clipping?) via the rear 3.5mm line out to a set of powered bookshelf speakers. I then followed the instructions in MoKiChU's thread for ASUS ROG SS3|DTS Sound Unbound, but I am still getting some small audio distortion with Amplify Level set to Performance. I noticed that the distortion level increases if this setting is increased to Powerful or Extreme, and is minimised when set to Performance. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a lower amplification setting than that.
Another user suggested reducing the Windows 11 master volume. While this does seem to help a bit, there are a few things that I was hoping could be clarified:

Same problem on x670E-E. This has been a problem for a concerningly long time

I don't know how common or widespread this issue really is, but I was hoping Asus support could comment on this, or try to replicate it to see exactly why it is happening (particularly if it is not unique to one motherboard type).
I am using Windows 11 Home 24H2, Build 26100.2894
Thanks

I with my X670E Extreme have no problems with Audio. I have ASUS Realtek USB Audio Driver V6.3.9600.2342.

Thanks for the reply. So technically that is an earlier driver, which is actually listed as the official version on the support page for the board at https://rog.asus.com/uk/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-x670e-f-gaming-wifi-model/helpdesk_download...
Realtek USB Audio Driver VB6.3.9600.2342 For Windows 10/11 64-bit.
Special version for SS3 Virtual Mixer disabled for better stability.
I remember reading a comment from MoKiChU where he recommended not using this version of the driver. If we could find out why, it would help build up a picture of what is going wrong here.
Thanks

Thanks for replying, your driver version is the one listed on the downloads page on the official support page for the board, but I remember MoKiChU recommended not using it. I don't recall the exact reason for this but it would probably help to isolate where things are going wrong.
What kind of speakers are you connecting to and what kind of impedance and amplification are you using in the Realtek Audio Console?
Thanks

I use headphones from Sennheiser. No Speakers. With Realtek plify Option Extrem.

I see, are you using the Line Out from the motherboard, or the front headphone jack on your case? They go through different amplification paths from what I understand. My problem is very specifically with the rear Line Out.

Front headphone jack.
