X670E-E Gaming code 00 after CMOS reset via battery

My build:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

CPU AIO: NZXT Kraken Elite 360 2023

MB: ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-E GAMING WIFI

PSU: MSI MEG Ai1300p (80 plus Platinum)

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo (2 x 32 Gb)

CASE: LIAN LI LANCOOL III

GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GAMING OC

BIOS: version 2604

Background: Fresh build. The computer was fully functional, Windows 11 worked fine, games worked. But there was a problem with rebooting (code 0d), I found information that some time ago Asus added to Bios the item "software monitoring workaround", which helps to get rid of this problem.

Just in case, before checking this workaround, I decided to reset the BIOS by disconnecting the battery (it also took some time until I realized that the rubber gasket near the battery was interfering). Of course, I disconnected all power. BIOS version 2604 (I have already updated it earlier). After 5-10 minutes, I inserted another (new) battery, pressed the computer start button, and nothing - all the coolers are buzzing, the screen is black, and the code on the motherboard is 00 and GREEN LED.

What I tried to do:

  • Reset CMOS with the button on the back panel;

  • Remove the battery again for 5-10 minutes and insert the original one (which came with the kit);

  • Remove and swap RAM, leave only one;

  • Reinstall the BIOS firmware again (FlashBack) and roll back the BIOS firmware to an older one;

  • Check all the wires from the PSU (I pulled out and reinserted all the wires into the PSU, I just checked the wires in the motherboard) - but, of course, I did not touch any wires of the MB while working with the battery;

  • Disconnect all PCI devices and all wires from the MB except for the power and pump.

What else can I check?

Hi @malltaf

The steps you took shouldn't ordinarily be necessary or result in 00, so something likely instigated this along the way.

  1. 00 Indicates a CPU detection issue. Remove the CPU cooler and CPU. Inspect the socket and CPU pin-pad for any debris or damage.
  2. Remount the CPU and cooler whilst ensuring for consistent mounting pressure as per the cooling vendors instructions.
  3. Report back

Hello, thank you for your answer.

But nothing helped.
I pulled out the CPU, checked the socket - everything is ok. Made a photo report.
Thermal paste - Noctua NT-H2.

Plus: I tried to pull out the CMOS battery for 5 minutes and turn on the computer WITHOUT IT now. The result is the same: the coolers hummed, the orange-yellow LED lit up, then red, then white, the screen received power (but did not display anything), then green. And stayed on green.

I will add that when I changed the battery (the first time, after which the problem appeared), it took a long time to remove the battery, in the process I pressed hard on the battery ejection lever. Only then I realized that I needed to remove the rubber gasket from the lever. Could I have damaged something? I did not hear a crunch 🙂

I will repeat just in case, I have already launched Windows 11 Pro and played Battlefield 2042 on this build before problem occurred.

Thanks for the update. I've since moved your thread to ROG Care for the attention of service.
