Hello everybody!
I know this has been discussed but I cannot find any update on it.
THE SPECS:
Chip: Ryzen 9 7950X3D
Mobo: X670E-E GAMING with Bios V. 2007
GPU: 3090Ti
RAM: 4x32GB Crucial Pro RAM DDR5 5600MHz CP2K32G56C46U5
THE ISSUE:
- If I put 2 slots, the memory is detected at 5600.
- if I put the 4 slots it downgrades to 3600. (Still works great though)
-If I touch the BIOS the computer won't start (error code C5)
THE QUESTION:
- Is there any way to bring those numbers up, at least to 4800 or something like that?
- Does this has to be with the BIOS of my Mobo being outdated? (I try not to update if everything works stable)

Very good then.
VFX and 3D Modeling?
These could be considered work applications in which case, more capacity can benefit.

Hello OSXelot
It's because you're combining two memory kits which is not recommended.
Use only one memory kit in the A2-B2 memory slots.

Yeah, read about that but nah...128gb is still much faster than 64gb at 5600. I will continue like this and that's that.

Hi @OSXelot ,
Normally I find if needing to ask these questions, it's best to stick to one memory kit. Manually tuning isn't for the faint-hearted when mixing memory kits and overclocking
The vendor takes two modules and will put them through rigorous testing to ensure they are able to perform a certain frequency, timing at a certain voltage point with sufficient guardband. They do not accommodate for unknowns such as adding additional modules. Even if they are from the same part number, serial or batch. Why? Because there are no assurances that the memory kits(s), motherboard or CPU will be able to obtain the same frequency and timings, and more than likely not at the same voltage point.

Well,
While you have more capacity with 128GB, dropping to 3600MHz is much slower.
With a 7950x3d cpu, I imagine you built your pc for gaming and a 2x32GB memory kit is more than enough. I'm only using 16GB (2x8GB) DDR5 at 6200MHz.
Games prefer speed over capacity. Depending on the game, higher speed memory can show a significant performance increase.

No no, almost zero games. I'm in VFX and 3D and I've already noticed the upgrade with the 128gb.

Exactly!,
I just wanted to check if I could do something to put them at the correct speed but if there's nothing that can be done then well, a shame, but it works great too. On a second note, you think it will ever be possible via software upgrades to achieve the full or at least higher speed?

Please read my reply above. A BIOS update isn't going to help with combining memory kits and overclocking. You'd need to investigate tuning manually, and there's only so much assistance one can give vicariously with these things.

I did and liked it.
But my computer is working much better now with 128 at lower speed than with the 64gb module at max speed so I will continue as I am at lower speed. It's not a gaming PC what I have.
