USB devices of my motherboard Disconnects while doing intense Video Decoding using Asus 4090 OC GPU?

while using intense Video or Image processing for some time which takes the CPU took 80-90% and GPU 90-100% usage, i found some time my motherboard poweroff my usb devices and my keyboard and mouse also disconnected (also the AIO cooler display also goes off (as it is connected via motherboard usb). What could be the reason behind it? Reconnecting USB devices also doesnt do anything. I have to switch off pc power to make it restart.

My PC configuration:

  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi II
  • CPU: Intel Core i9-14900K
  • Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite 360mm AIO
  • GPU: ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition
  • RAM: 128 GB DDR5 (5600 MHz, 1.35V)
  • PSU: Corsair HX1200i
  • Case: NZXT H9 Elite with 6 intake fans and 4 exhaust fans (all ARGB)
  • Display: BenQ 32-inch monitor (60 Hz)
  • Keyboard: Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro (Green Switch)
  • Mouse: Razer Basilisk V3 Pro 35K
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro

I tried Multi-rail OCP mode but still problem persisted. But then I found it could be the power problem as I was using a surge protector connected via my home inverter. Earlier it was more frequent as I was using Asus AI Overclocking and also using normal plug to switch on using a surge protecter which was connected via my home Inverter... Now after using a dedicated power switch for my PC and after re-connecting my 4090 wires and re-connecting all wires from my PSU the problem is solved upto an extent. (Dunno what action did solve what)...

But still today while using a ComfyUI for image to video proccessing  for about 1 hour (not continuously but used for 1-2 minutes to generate about 30-35 videos) ... i found my keyboard/mouse lights gone and the AIO cooler display also gone (it sets to default)... I had to press power off button continuously to switch it off n thn back on....

Is this motherboard incapable of taking continous load for high end GPU processing?

Hello @anupam_luv

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Could you please clarify if this issue occurred after the PC was first built or after using it for some time and occurred following any recent changes, such as a BIOS update or component replacement?
If the abnormal USB connection issue on the motherboard’s rear I/O panel also occurs during idle or under light load conditions?

Based on your description, it is possible that high loads causing elevated temperatures may lead to USB functionality issues.
To address this, we recommend not only verifying the hardware installation, including ensuring the CPU is neither loosely nor overly tightened, the thermal paste is adequately applied, and all three power connectors are properly connected.

But also monitor CPU and GPU utilization as well as the temperatures of the CPU, GPU, and system under various conditions.
Additionally, please check whether the current BIOS has been updated to version 1801, released on December 6, 2024. Afterward, clear the CMOS and ensure all BIOS settings are set to default (including disabling XMP), then confirm if the issue improves.

In general, high loads or overclocking settings can enhance performance but may also result in increased temperatures. In such cases, fan operation and cooling systems will play a crucial role in maintaining stability.

Thank you.
