Hello we'd like to update the firmware of a very old motherboard. It has a bios version that is older than the oldest version in the Asus download page. We are told that on older motherboards, it may not be possible to jump directly to the latest version, but we cannot find any specific instructions on how to proceed. Is it true that we should not attempt to install the latest firmware version on an older motherboard? If so, what steps do we need to take?
ROG Strix 450i Gaming motherboard:
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 1001, 9/27/2018

BaseBoard Manufacturer ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
BaseBoard Product ROG STRIX B450-I GAMING
BaseBoard Version Rev 1.xx
Platform Role Desktop

Hello @csway
Thank you for reaching out to us.
May I ask what specific need is prompting you to update the BIOS? For example, is it related to hardware changes, memory compatibility, or other requirements?
Currently, the latest BIOS version available on the ROG STRIX B450-I GAMING support page is version 5502, which indeed represents a significant gap from your current version.
When updating the BIOS, we recommend proceeding incrementally to reduce the risk of update failures caused by large firmware version differences or parameter discrepancies. You may first update to version 2202, then proceed to 2501, followed by 2602, and so on, until reaching the latest version.
Before updating, please ensure that all important data is backed up. For detailed steps and precautions regarding BIOS updates, you may refer to the guide, [Motherboard] How to update BIOS of the motherboard? (Include different generation CPU).
Thank you.

Thank you so much - highly appreciated. The update is to hopefully utilize secure boot and TPM for both Windows 11 and Linux.

Hello @csway
Thank you for your prompt response.
Regarding your inquiry, we recommend referring to [Motherboard] Which ASUS model supports Windows 11 and how to set up TPM 2.0 in BIOS? and Enable TPM 2.0 on your PC for related instructions, if needed.
Thank you.
