Unable to Install Windows 11 on a ROG STRIX 790-E Gaming Wifi

I just finished building a new PC and have been stuck trying to install windows 11 using a USB drive for hours

I will boot the USB drive and get through the windows installer to the point that the computer restarts.

I will remove the USB to allow the windows manager to boot from my SSD, but the bios opens up and shows no bootable devices.

When I run the windows installer again from the USB it shows my SSD has been partitioned and some space has been taken, but I am unable to boot it.

I have tried formatting the SSD to GPT, ensured that secure boot and TPM are on, I have even tried a separate USB installation of Windows 10 with the same result.

I made sure my USB drive is formatted to NTFS as well.

Leaving the usb connected after the reboot leads to a loop with windows set up launching again and again

Has anyone run into this issue before? And if so is there a fix?

My motherboard is a ROG STRIX Z790-E

SSD is a WD_BLACK SN850X and from the manual it should be compatible. I am also able to see it come up as storage on the bios menu and can try and boot from it with CMS although it is unable to do so.

Hello @thimschleep

We apologize for the delayed response due to the recent local holiday.
Based on your description, it seems that the EFI partition for the boot drive may not have been properly created or configured.
As you mentioned, the SSD is recognized in BIOS and the partition space is visible, which could indicate that the EFI partition was created during the system installation but was not correctly configured.
We recommend trying to use diskpart to check if an EFI partition exists or running bcdboot to regenerate the boot files.
If necessary, please consider reformat the SSD and reinstall Windows to ensure you delete all partitions during the installation process to let Windows create the necessary EFI and system partitions automatically, or cross-test with another SSD.
Please refer to [Motherboard]How to install Windows 11? if needed.

Thank you.

Due to the local holidays, my responses may be slightly delayed.
For any urgent cases, we recommend reaching out to your local service center for further assistance. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
