Troubleshooting an Issue

Hello,

I recently built my 5th computer and have had nothing but constant issues.

At first I could not get it to POST. The DRAM light was on and was giving me a code for a RAM issue, so I ended up replacing the original RAM with the below. After replacing the RAM, the POST was successful.

I was unable to connect to the WIFI, so I plugged right into the router to update my drivers. I also updated my BIOS to the latest version, I believe it’s 1901.

Now I was able to connect via WIFI and moved my computer back to the office. This is the same location as my previous build.

I started playing Grey Zone and experienced game crashes. I did some research and ended up turning off all overlays and updated my Nvidia Driver. The crashes did not stop, but were less frequent. I started to notice that I had brief moments that my WIFI was disconnecting, less than a second at a time. This issue was also noticed while watching Twitch. I double checked that I had the latest WIFI driver, and I did.

I did more research about the crashing and decided to turn off XMP. I set my RAM to 6400. This again helped, but has not completely solved the issue. I lowered the speed to 5600 and it has gotten worse again. The crashing has continued. I have seen a few blue screens, but was too stupid to take a picture or write down the info. Now my computer will restart randomly.

This build is less than 2 weeks old and has really only been running for a week. During the first few days I smelled hot plastic, but it did not smell like anything was burning.

Apart from XMP and changing my RAM speed, I have not tried to Overclock the CPU yet. I do however have the BIOS set to AI optimized. Perhaps that is causing some of the issues, but I have not tested that yet.

I am uncertain what the issue is or what to diagnose at this point. I am currently running the windows memory diagnostic tool, but I doubt the memory is the issue. I am leaning towards the motherboard or power supply.

Hello JohnThiccc

It's not recommended to combine memory kits which it looks like you've done. Remove a memory kit and have the other kit installed in the A2-B2 slots (2nd & 4th slots from the cpu).

With your pc shut down and your memory installed in the A2-B2 slots, press and hold the clear cmos button for 3 seconds, then boot up your pc.

Hello Nate152,

Thank you for your suggestion. I thought I was fine to use multiple sets of ram so long as they are the same model.

I only have ram in A2 and B2. I have not seen anything freeze so far. I still am having issues loosing WiFi connection briefly. This is happening during games, downloads, and watching streams.

Ok,

Most (if not all) memory manufacturers will recommend to NOT combine memory kits.

Try running the Network and Internet troubleshooter, it should either fix or identify the issue.

It gives the same results as when I previously ran the troubleshooter. “Troubleshooter couldn’t identify the problem”.

Before blaming your hardware consider to investigate software troubles:

Did you find and inspect the crash log? It often contains accurate information.

If no logs was generated, then try common check lists

Before trying to tweak ram speed and BIOS settings you should also ensure you are using game settings approved by other people with similar hardware. Such suggestions for settings is easy to find.
