I have the Maximus Hero z790 and the top PCI slot will not work. The card in question was pulled out of a known working computer(my old gaming rig where I recycled the 3070) but the card won't show up at all I can use my onboard video but I can't game on that any help please. BTW I have scoured Google, made sure to update to the newest  BIOS version, ect. I was wondering if there was anything else I can try Thanks in advance.

Hello, @Scooterjes

May I ask if the situation you described happened after any changes were made? For example, updating the BIOS or connecting an external device
Based on your description, the GPU (which brand is it?) doesn't display when installed in PCIEX16 (G5)_1.
Did you use an extension cable or adapter to connect the GPU at that time? Could you cross-test with PCIEX16 (G5)_2 to see if the issue persists?

Is the current BIOS version 1801? After completing the update, did you clear CMOS?
Does changing the PCIe to [gen 4] in BIOS>Advanced Mode>Advanced>PCH Configuration help?

Thank you.

And I forgot to add i am not using any kind of PCIE extension either I am putting the card straight into the slot.

I did try the other PCI slot as well as the alt_pcie_mode switch positions(dunno what they do/are for) but got no video at all from the IGPU or the card.

This is a brand new motherboard with a 14700k and I could not get the top m.2 slot to work so I am using the the bottom 2 m.2 slots ATM. I did run it off the onboard graphics for a little while just to test it as I didn't have a card to put in it at the time. The card does light up/fans come on/ect but Windows won't see it at all and I dunno how to tell if the BIOS recognizes it but there is no video output at all. This: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/scooterjes/saved/#view=6Lzbpg is the part list the only part of this system that is not brand new is the graphics card.
