STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI - 9800X3D // Massive Input Lag

Hey all,

I've got an issue with my x870e, build is 3 months old.

Build has been working flawlessly since I upgraded, however as of last Sunday.
I got a long boot time, machine was doing ram training again which was odd.
Ever since, I've got noticeable input lag while gaming.
Have updated Firmware for USB controllers to latest version, have updated to latest BIOS

Have removed any undervolt / curve optimastion. Only using optmised defaults and Expo 1.
Tested with another RAM kit and had the same issue.
Mainly only playing the new call of duty.
Have tested with different keyboard mouse, as well as different controller.
Took PC to a different location to confirm nothing enviromental was causing the issue, still had the same problem.

  • 64GB G.Skill Royal 6000mhz cl30 Ram
  • 9800X3D
  • 3080Ti
  • Samsung 990 Pro SSD
  • Rog x870e Gaming WiFi
  • Win 11 24h2 - Have tried 23h2 as well as 25h2

Have tried any suggestions around using power explorer to change certain settings.

Open to any options, however at this point feels like I need to RMA the board..

Tested with multiple fresh installations of Windows.
Tested with Expo disabled, turned off the automatic armoury install.

Installing the latest chipset drivers via AMD Website, Latest LAN from Realtek. Nvidia drivers direct from Nvida.
Frame times in game are good, no massive spikes. HZ rate of mouse isn't dropping or disconnecting.

Have ordered a new PSU as the only two things in my current build that aren't brand new are my graph card and PSU.

PSU is a 5 year old RMX850x.
Graph card is pulling just shy of 400w under max load.
Computer temps are good, passed full load test multiple times. RAM has passed 12 hour test also.

Hi @Ruke

The long boot is normal, as occasionally, the system will need to retrain. What doesn't make sense is why you'd then see "input lag" after the fact.

Are you able to install the latest beta BIOS below? See if the issue persists. This BIOS contains the most recent AMD AGESA firmware.

Thanks for the reply mate.

I'll give the BETA BIOS a try tonight and see if it resolves it.
I opened a ticket with ASUS, they recommended a few things and I tried each of them to no avail.

I contacted the vendor I purchased the motherboard through to arange an RMA.
I'll test with the Beta BIOS tonight.
If that doesn't resolve the issue I'll proceed with the RMA.
Thank you.

Hey @Silent_Scone

So last night I installed the BETA BIOS, 100% felt a difference. Less Input delay on my existing install of Windows.
I read another suggestion online of trying to use M.2_5 rather then the M.2 1 as apparently the direct CPU m.2 can have delay issues.

Fresh install of Windows 24h2 with the M.2 drive in port 5 and fresh drivers ect.
Felt almost like normal. Tonight I will try and do a fresh install using M.2_1 and see how it feels.
I'm inclined to still process the RMA as the motherboard has been having issues, and the most recent not BETA BIOS obviously has problems // creating some issues.

If the new BIOS resolves the issue, the issue was likely caused by something related to that revision of AGESA FW rather than the board having a fault. What other issues are you experiencing?

Have you also updated to the latest chipset drivers from AMD?

The BETA Bios made the issue better, it didn't fully resolve it.

- With the same SSD installed into M.2_5 rather then M.2_1 I get noticeably less input lag now, exact same SSD.
Drive is updated to latest Samsung Firmware.

RMA has all been approved and both ASUS and AMD recommended returning the motherboard as motherboard failure is more likely then CPU.

Appreciate the help, ticket can be closed and I pray for the new board to resolve it fully! 🙂
