STRIX X670E-E + 7950X: d6 error

I have a new STRIX X670E-E board with a 7950X CPU, 2x48 GB RAM (Corsair, on the QVL), 2x 2TB Samsung 990 Pro (on socked M.1_1 + M.1_2) and a Crucial P3 Plus 2 TB (on socket M.1_3) and a Seasonic Prime PX-450 power supply.

I don’t have any GPU installed, as I plan to use my machine as server, so I connected a screen on internal HDMI port. When I turn on the PC the screen goes out of sleep mode, but still reports: “NO HDMI”.

I always get an Q-Code error “d6” and the VGA-LED is white (and BOOT LED is green - but I could not install a OS yet) and nothing is displayed on screen.

What could I try to fix that error?

I already tried:

• upgraded BIOS (with BIOS Flashback - as I never came into BIOS…), I tried newest 1416, but also some BETA BIOS 1515 from the “X670 resource” thread. During upgrade process I see Flashback-LED blinking and after a few minutes it goes out. Is there an other way to check, if BIOS update is actually performed?
• I tried booting with one 48GB DIMM
• I tried re-seating the CPU and RAM - all looks good, no debris on sockets, all clean
• I disconnected all cables from the motherboard (except ATX-Power, CPU power cable and CPU-FAN)
• Tried another HDMI-cable and a beamer - still “No HDMI"

I don’t have any other spare parts available to swap them out (as this is my first custom build). From my understanding the CPU has an integrated graphics and it should work without a dedicated GPU card - and I also assume, the default BIOS does not disable the iGPU by default?

I upgraded to new BIOS 1516, but still the very same issue.

I suspect, either my motherboard or the CPU are defective (DOA)… a short question: I see the d6 error code and the VGA-LED lighting up and a second later the yellow BOOT-LED (meaning no boot device found). Can I assume it looks for a boot device, so the CPU has to be working? Otherwise it would not make sense to continue the POST after d6, if the CPU would not work?

Generally, you can access the BIOS and check the current BIOS version in the upper left corner.
If your CPU supports it, there is no need to specifically enable the iGPU function.

However, based on your current description of having no display, we recommend referring to the following troubleshooting methods:
According to the [Motherboard] Common Q-CODE(Error CODE) and Troubleshooting, the AMD motherboard's common Q-CODE "d6" indicates an abnormality with the memory and graphics card.
Please refer to the steps for troubleshooting when the VGA and boot Q-LED indicators light up, as mentioned in [Motherboard] ASUS motherboard troubleshooting via Q-LED indicators.
Additionally, make sure to check if your memory is listed in the motherboard's QVL and installed in the recommended slots as per the user manual.
Meanwhile, we suggest you refer to [Motherboard] Troubleshooting - No Power/No Boot/No Display and test with minimal components to isolate the possible cause, and clear the CMOS after the BIOS is updated.

Thanks for your info - I already tried all those steps and also removed all - but the necessary - components to have a minimal system (Motherboard, CPU + Fan, 1 RAM DIMM) and my memory is on the QVL. Tried different RAM slots with all combinations. I cleared the CMOS using all mentioned combinations (CMOS reset button, but also removing battery)

I have now sent back my board, lets see if ASUS (or my reseller - don’t know who does the validation checks) find anything wrong with the board.

Just wanted to report: I received a replacement motherboard and everything just works now.

I'm also happy Asus now added 4x48GB configuration with 4 modules on the QVL. And 192 GB RAM also just worked out of the box, no extensive tuning was required - memtest64+ reported no error after 12+ h runtime @ 5200 speed settings.
