Hello everyone,
I’m facing a challenging issue with my new PC build and could really use some advice. Here's the situation:
I recently bought a new CPU (Ryzen 9800x3D) and RAM (Corsair CMK96GX5M2B6800C40) to pair with an Asus ROG STRIX B850-E GAMING WIFI motherboard. After assembling everything, the system powers on, but the yellow DRAM LED stays lit. (I don't see the Red lighting up beforehand.) The system doesn’t boot or display anything, and I can’t access the UEFI/BIOS. (stuck on yellow)
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- Resetting CMOS (via battery and the motherboard button).
- Testing each RAM module individually in different slots.
- Double-checking all power connections.
- Updating the BIOS using the Flashback feature.
The PSU is new as well, but seems to work, the GPU works fine in another system. Case and cooling fans are all functional.
The RAM I purchased is not on the QVL for the motherboard, but a similar RGB version is listed (same specs, manufacturer, and timings). I’m not sure if the issue is an incompatibility (would be strange), a defective CPU (less likely), motherboard (maybe), or RAM (maybe), or something I overlooked during assembly (unlikely).
Has anyone faced something similar? Before I consider returning components, I’d appreciate any troubleshooting tips or insights!
I've already contacted customer support, no reply yet.
Thanks in advance!

Hi @feu
Please wait for roughly 3 to 5 minutes for the system to complete memory training. This initial process can take awhile.
If still having difficulties, please report back.

@Silent_SconeI know how Asus boards work (bc. my last one was one as well), I had it running for 20 mins once. Not a solution. (Even though a single stick is 48GB, it doesn't take that long.)

Hi,
Sorry, due to the nature of the written word there's no way for me to tell how long you've left the system running before, hence it needs to be asked.
Edit: I've just realised you may have meant leaving for 3 to 5 minutes isn't a solution. Well, it is. As this is how long the [initial] DRAM training can take (not 20 minutes, though).
Are you running a CPU contact frame?
Inspected the CPU pin-pad and socket?

i know all about training.
obviously no contact frame, cpu is fine (else it would be red), also looked fine (looked at both).
already loosened the water cooler (though it can't be overtightened, its designed to prevent that), no change

Hello feu
I suspect incompatibility.
Your Corsair memory part number shows it's for Intel motherboards, you might want to try a memory kit designed for AMD motherboards.
VENGEANCE® 96GB (2x48GB) DDR5 DRAM 6800MT/S CL40 Memory Kit — Black

nope, it is ******ty manufacturing and design. board has bent pins, which i didn't cause but the lever might've (or it was bent when I got it.) 🫠 DRAM led. thx for the sh*tty board and sh*tty diagnosis. i wont try to fix this.

You can come back when you want to learn and have calmed down...
Or perhaps go to the AMD forum and ask them why the subroutines take longer than you think they should 🙂.
Seems like my diagnose was accurate in this case!
