ROG X670E Crosshair HERO Power Button Not Working, and Asus TR is awful!

I have been using the product since June 2023. In this year on August (2024), it suddenly stopped working after turning off the pc regulary. Next day when I tried to open the PC, nothing happened. Polymo RGB is working fine but when I press the power button either on the board or on the case, nothing happened, it just didn't work. I used the clear CMOS button, unplugged the BIOS battery and waited for a while with the UPS turned off for maybe 5 minutes then tried to open the PC, and, voila, it works. I thought the problem is resolved. After using for a few hours, I put the PC to sleep, then I came back to continue working, and it didn't open again. OK, at least I know the solution, and I thought that it is obviously a BIOS version problem, I decided to use the board until the next BIOS release. After the release, I upgraded my BIOS software but it didn't solve the problem. I decided to send the board to the service center, before sending, ethernet stopped working, on the Device Manager, it seems the Ethernet Controller but no driver it says and driver can't be found on the web or Armoury Crate app. Anyway, I sent to the service. After one week, they responded me that the problems are resolved. I re-installed the board, everything seemed fine, I used maybe 2 days then same things... I directly went to the service center, asked them if they had any other solution for the problem or they were to apply same solutions. They said they will apply same solutions. Then I asked if they can replace it with a new one because it was obvious that I was going to have the same problem again after using the product maybe 2 days after re-installing. They rejected. I called Asus Turkey and they said that to replace a product, I need to send the product to the service 3 times and in these 3 times there should be the same part replacement for changing the board with a new one. Funny, ha? 🙂

Hey Asus, this is a motherboard. You must understand that it is really hard for me to unplug everything and dismantle it, send it to the service and then go to take it back in the fu..ing Istanbul traffic jam and then re-install it. I've spent 4 days total now to fix a problem on my board. I can understand that kind of procedures for anyone but I have been a loyal customer to you for years. Almost my whole system is ASUS, at least I expect you to say that we must please this customer. Unbelievable. I bought one of the top boards to avoid that kind of problems and use it for years but here I am trying to solve the problem for more than 3 months. Now I am waiting for the ethernet to stop working again for the third time because the BIOS problem is already there, power button not working and I always need to clear CMOS, unplug the BIOS battery when I want to open the PC. Amazing work ASUS, thanks for making me aware. I think I will never buy another ASUS product again.

I wrote this message to inform you about the issue because I hope you may think changing the repair procedures for the problem or rules for replacement, so that other people who are using the same product and having the same problem can easily and happily solve their problems.

By the way, I just learned that according to the Turkey's Consumer Protection Law, Asus TR must have already changed the product with a new one since I visited the service with the exact same complaint twice in a year. It is really disappointing that one of the brands I really love is breaking the law when it comes to the post-sales support. Please do something to change that attitude of Asus Turkey. No happy customers means no new customers. You know that better than me.

Hello @SLHDDN

We apologize for any frustration this experience may have caused.
To further verify the repair and service history, I have DM you. Kindly review it at your convenience.

Additionally, based on your description, the system was functioning normally for two days after being returned from repair, but then it again failed to boot.
Could you let us know if any hardware or software changes were made during that time? When the issue occurred, were any Q-LEDs or Q-Codes solid on?
If removing all SSDs and HDDs, leaving only the CPU, CPU cooler, RAM, and PSU installed, are you able to boot into the BIOS?
We would appreciate it if you could provide the following information to help us investigate this issue:
- A detailed video showing the issue, including any Q-LED or Q-Code indicators during the boot failure and your current troubleshooting steps
- The brand and model of the PSU, as well as the Ram model and part number
- Two .txt files generated in your Windows system via the steps below:
1.Press the WIN+R keys on the keyboard to open the command window
2.Key in: dxdiag → OK
3.Click [Save All Information]
4.Select the save location and click [Save]
Same steps, replace the command line in step 2 with: msinfo32
5.Key in: msinfo32 → OK → and save the txt file.
You may upload the video and files to cloud storage and share a link with us for further investigation.

Thank you.

Hello @SLHDDN

Thank you for your prompt reply, and I have also updated our PM.
Based on the situation that you’re unable to boot using the case power button, as the ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO supports booting directly from the START button on the motherboard, could you share the result when attempting to boot using this button?

For relevant FAQs, we also recommend the following information for you or other users who may come across this thread:
[Motherboard] ASUS motherboard troubleshooting via Q-LED indicators
[Motherboard] Common Q-CODE(Error CODE) and Troubleshooting
Q-LEDs and Q-codes serve as indicators or error codes that display whenever any hardware issues are detected during the PSOT process after boot.
If you encounter a boot failure, you may also refer to the recommendations in [Motherboard] Troubleshooting - No Power/No Boot/No Display, which provides steps to minimize hardware and isolate potential issues.

Thank you.

Hello,

I know the Start button on the board. I've tried it everytime I had the problem. The result is exactly the same with using the Start button on my case.

The thing is I can't run the PC or Start the booting process. Nothing happens as I mentioned. No Q Code or q led I can share. It is like it doesn't detect the Start button at all for some reason.

Hello @SLHDDN

We have forwarded the videos to our engineers for further consultation.
Based on the differences in the Q-codes from both videos, the engineers have determined that the causes of the boot failure may not be the same.
In the video recorded after the second repair, at 00:03, the system fails to boot using the "start" button. At 00:14, you switched the PSU power, and after clearing CMOS, the system still fails to boot at 00:41.
Given this information, our engineers suspect that an abnormality may have occurred during the hardware installation process.
We recommend that you refer to the user manual to verify the correct installation of the hardware, including checking for any bent CPU pins and removing non-essential components such as the SSD or UPS to narrow down potential issues as much as possible.
Additionally, I have updated our pm and please check it at your convenience.

Thank you.

Hello,

I had reached the private message limit. So, I am writing this entry to let you know that I have uploaded two new videos to the folder, titled "Demo-1" and "Demo-2". I have tried to explain the problem in these videos. Please let me know if you require any further information. You already have the URL to access the videos.

Thank you.

By the way, I explained in the videos but I will text it again. The problem is not boot failure. I can boot the PC successfully if I can make the Start button functional. You will understand me better when you see the videos. I didn't think that you were gonna assume it is a boot failure and I cut the videos directly after boot started. Again, it is not the problem. The problem is non-functioning `Start` button, both of them are not working, the button on the board and the button on the case. To make them work, I need to reset the bios. I explained it in the video.

Thanks
