ROG STRIX Z890-E GAMING Ethernet Slow

I just purchased this motherboard and did this massive 7k+ build on this computer and man I wish I would have stumbled on all these problems for the internal ethernet port. I am having the same problem it seems that many have said and reported for many other boards.

I have a 5 gig port, it is connected at 5 gigs, I am using the latest realtek driver available on the website.

Realtek LAN Driver V1126.19.704.2024 for Windows 11.(WHQL)

I can only get 800 megs download but it can do 1.5 gigs upload. Every other device on my network gets 5/5 or 10/10 via their links.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem yet?

Hello @stamper197

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Could you please confirm the current version of your OS build, and has your BIOS been updated to the latest version, 1203, released on December 18, 2024?If not, we recommend updating both the OS and BIOS, clearing CMOS, and restarting the system to see if the issue persists.
In addition to verifying whether there may be power limitations in the power mode settings, kindly check if disabling the Energy-Efficient Ethernet option under Device Manager > Realtek PCIe 5GbE Family Controller Properties improves.
Kindly refer to the below FAQs for related troubleshooting guidance:

[Motherboard] How to fix the cable network problems of Motherboard – Troubleshooting
Fix Ethernet connection problems in Windows
If the issue persists, please verify the status of the LAN port LEDs when the problem occurs

as well as the following information to help us better understand your scenario:
- the images of the BIOS main page and screenshots of LAN details under Power Management and Device Manager
- the brand, model and installation slots or ports of the CPU, GPU, RAM (part number well), SSD/HDD, and PSU
- the OS version and OS build and the circumstances and frequency of the problem
- a detailed video documenting the issue, we suggest the following steps for recording:
Start recording and check the LAN connection status> Clear CMOS and perform a cold boot to enter the system> Confirm the system information, driver version, and power management settings, and then verify the Ethernet transmission speed

Thank you.

Due to the local holidays, my responses may be slightly delayed.
For any urgent cases, we recommend reaching out to your local service center for further assistance. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

I was constantly getting disconnects on the current RealTek drivers.   In an attempt to fix it, I uninstalled the drivers, rebooted Windows 11 and while getting ready to reinstall the driver discovered that the default LAN driver provided with Windows 11 24H2 seemed to fix the problem.

My system shows the Ethernet is using a Microsoft driver dated 3/31/2015  (Version 9.1.412.2015).

Try uninstalling the RealTek driver and reboot then see if it works normally.   I am hoping ASUS will get us a working driver that is a bit more recent.

I tried all of the above, the best performance did end up being the latest drivers off asus website the Realtek LAN Driver V1126.19.704.2024 for Windows 11.(WHQL). The power settings were adjusted as indicated, the duplex settings were set to 5 gigs, the non realtek driver only allows up to 2.5 gig duplex not that it matters since it cant get past 800 megs down or 1.5 up. This is in Windows 11 64 bit with the latest updates installed. This is on an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K. This is also with a cat 8 40 gbs rated cable installed going straight to my 10 gig Unifi Switch.

If I boot the system in an Ubuntu USB Image, I get the full 5 gigs down the port can do.

I tried doing the network reset option, and all other attempted solutions listed non work. Its going to be some sort of driver issue with the realtek drivers. Some sort of settings either with buffers or something along those lines who knows.

Have you tried the drivers posted on the RealTek site instead of the ASUS approved drivers?
I had the same problem with the ASUS drivers as you describe.  Reverted to the default Microsoft Windows 11 driver but decided to give the RealTek drivers a try after seeing your recent reply.   They seem to be working for me but haven't extensively tested them.  So far, so good.   The drivers are dated 12-24-2024.  Found them by simply searching for the RealTek 5GBE drivers.

Hope this helps.

Tried the drivers on the realtek site, same issue.

I see that ASUS just posted some new RealTek LAN drivers.   No real info on what the update covers.   Have yet to try them myself.   Still working best with the default, very old MS Windows 11 drivers.   I will be trying them after updating the BIOS .

Sorry, saw the LAN at the top of the list  and assumed it was new.   It appears to be the same old driver.
