ROG strix z790 H - motherboard wiring

Hi Guys (and Gals) -

I'm putting together a new gaming rig.  Its been about 20 years since I built my last one and I'm a little out of the game to say the least.  I have an Antec C5 ARGB case and I'm not sure how to connect the some of the items on the motherboard.

In the user manual, page 1-17, item 15 (system panel header).   If I'm interpreting the pin hook-ups correctly the HDD LED+ and HDD LED- connect to the bottom row left-most two pins and the PLED+ and PLED- would connect to the top row, left-most pins.  The PWRS lead would plug into the the next TWO pins on the top and the reset would be the two pins on the bottom.  Am I looking at that correctly?

Also, when connecting the power to the motherboard, I need to connect both the 24 PIN ATX AND the two 8-PIN connectors at the top left of the MB, correct?

Last but not least, if anyone is using the same case, there is a 3-pin connector coming from the top panel that isn't labeled.  It kind of looks like a fan connector, but the case documentation is sparse to say the least.  Does anyone have an idea what that might be and where to plug it in?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Joe

Depending on the board, that can sometimes be the case. According to the manual, M.2_1 does not share lanes with PCIE16X_1 on the Z790-H.

Hi @Modas

1. In regards to the front panel headers, the motherboard should come with a block header.

2. Yes. the 24-pin ATX connector and both 8-pin ESP12v connectors should be connected.

3. Are you able to take a photo of the case connector? It's likely to either be RGB for the chassis or a fan header.

HI @Silent_Scone

Thanks for the help.  I think the undefined cord from the case is for controlling LED light colors.  I didn't get a header block like you have in your pictures, but I think I was able to figure the correct hookup from the picture.

The other question I have, not related to wiring is where to put my M2 drive.  I saw a video that putting the M2 SSD in the M2.1 slot would throttle the PCI slot down from 16 lanes to 8 lanes.  I couldn't find anything in the manual that said confirmed what was in the video.  Should I be using the M2.2 slot or one of the others instead?

Thanks again for the help!
