ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WiFi won't boot up

Hello everyone! I have a problem with my PC, more precisely the Motherboard.

The problem is when I shut down the PC. It won't power up at all from the power button or reset or anything, unless I reset the CMOS from the button at the back. Then I get into the BIOS, everything looks OK and if I change anything and try to save the settings, the PC shuts down to reset and cannot be powered up by the power button or anything else. The cycle repeats if I reset the CMOS. The only way to get  the PC to start normally into Windows is to not change anything in the BIOS so it only restarts(not shut down) and then it loads normally. I've updated the BIOS to 1501. I was on 1402 before, tried with 1303 as well, still the same. Tried the flashback from USB, tried the flashback from the BIOS: all results are the same. The moment the PC needs to shutdown(even when updating the BIOS itself) it doesn't boot up. I have to reset the CMOS. What I notice is that the flashback LED keeps blinking even when I don't have a USB inserted in the flashback port or haven't pressed the flashback button after rebooting the PC.

I swapped the PSU - it wasn't it. I did a test on the RAM - it was fine, 0 errors. The Q-LED shows everything is fine when the PC boots up. I ran the tests without the GPU so it isn't that. I tried a minimum configuration with nothing external connected: only CPU, RAM, PSU and Motherboard - all the same. I also swapped the CMOS battery - no change.

My configuration:
Motherboard - ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WiFi
CPU - Intel Corei7 13700K
GPU - NVIDIA RTX 4090
PSU - ROG-THOR-1000P2-GAMING 1000W
RAM - Kingston Fury Renegade 6400 DDR5 32GB
OS - Windows 11 (all updated)

Thank you in advance!

Hi I'm having the exactly same problem starting from May, my motherboard is ROG Z790-A STRIX,  the distributor for ASUS won't listen to what I've described and keeps letting me test the hardware check on the wire of motherboard which means nothing, cause it will boot through the AC BACK BIOS function and just won't react on the power button when the BLNK green light is blinking sometimes.  Thank you so much for posting it. I'll definitely try turnng off the ErP Ready and get back with what I've got.

I aslo met this problem on 2024 May which is same with @Yapper1 , it's either because some invisible update from ASUS or the motherboard quality gets bad after less than 2 years. I didn't change nothing on the PC.

Same here, came out of nowhere in May.

Now updating bios and testing without ErP Ready.

Hello everyone

I havent been able to go back to this issue, unfortunately @Yapper1 's solution didnt work for me and I already have the ErP Ready turned off. This issue persisted for maybe a week or two, but eventually went away when I left the PC running for more than week and did a string of stress tests to my PC. Now the issues doesnt happen anymore and I cant really identify what I did to fix it because with my last post I even uploaded a video showing what was happening which everyone can find here >>> https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-motherboards/rog-strix-z790-f-gaming-wifi-won-t-boot-up/m-p/101...

Summary

1. I left PC running for a week and did a battery of stress tests
2. I already have the ErP setting turned off

Issue went away

Intel 13700K, Asus Z790-F, Gigabyte Windforce RTX4090, 2x32GB GSkill DDR6400

So after roughly 1 month of my motherboard woes and problem seemingly to have went away, early today mt PC just shutdown without any warning and my PC wont boot at all. This time no green LED blinking and what I did was a cleared CMOS and finally able to reboot my PC. I haven't done any bios updates nor installed anything significant.

Hello, @bwandowando

After some time, may I ask if you had any overclocking settings in place during this period?
When the system automatically shut down and could not power on, what was your usage scenario at that time, and have you ruled out potential overheating as a cause?
If the issue has not occurred again, we recommend continuing to monitor during usage.

Thank you.

Hello @Jiaszzz_ROG

Aside from enabling XMP, I haven't done any OCing and I've always been using Stock and default settings

When the system automatically shut down and could not power on, what was your usage scenario at that time, and have you ruled out potential overheating as a cause?

I was just running some Python processes, no gaming, no benchmarking, minimal load. It just... shutdown and the glowing LED of the motherboard can be seen. But it can't be powered on. I had to do a CMOS reset just to be able to power it back on.

If the issue has not occurred again, we recommend continuing to monitor during usage.

Yes , I will monitor
