ROG Strix X870E-E Line in is so impossibly quiet it may aswell not work.

I bought this motherboard less than a week ago, and from the very start the 3.5mm jack at the back, and the 3.5mm jack at the front barely detect anything, but I can atleast see the bar move in windows' settings if I'm really loud (literally clapping the microphone between my hands)

I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers probably 8 or so times, both the ones on asus' website and the ones in these forums. I've also both done a clean install of windows and used the "reset windows" option in windows. My mic isn't muted, the programs have access to it, it's not turned down too far in the sound menus that microsoft likes to bury. I've uninstalled, disabled, reinstalled the device in device manager a thousand times, both the line in itself and the Realtek USB2.0 Audio. There's no cables on the inside to be incorrectly plugged into; the ports are literally on the motherboard's io. I've tried the mic on my laptop and it works, I've bought a brand new splitter that doesn't work, and I've tried using the mic through one of those cheap 3.5mm to USB-C cables and it worked.

With all this, I am beyond sure that this problem lies outside the scope of anything I can solve. Either the motherboard itself is broken, or the drivers asus is pushing are broken. Neither would surprise me, as at no point did I ever get Realtek Audio Console to work, on the occasion I could even get it to install that is.

Frankly paying £400+ for this motherboard and it being the motherboard means I really do not want to pull everything out of my computer to send it in for RMA, and I desperately hope anybody has any sort of solution I haven't tried yet.

Hello @wnnb3dgy

Thank you for reaching out to us. We apologize for the delayed response due to a public holiday in our region and any inconvenience this may have caused.
Could you please confirm your current BIOS version? If you have not yet updated to the latest BIOS 1003, we recommend updating and clear CMOS before checking the issue again.
Additionally, please ensure that HD Audio Controller is set to [Enabled] in the BIOS and verify that there are no mismatched settings under USB Configuration that could affect your usage scenario. Kindly refer to the BIOS manual if needed.

Within the OS, please try using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to remove the existing Realtek driver, then test both the inbox driver provided by the OS and the latest official driver from our website to see if there are any differences.
Also, please confirm that your Windows audio settings, as well as Windows power mode and plan settings, are correctly configured and not imposing any unexpected limitations. If possible, we recommend cross-testing with a different microphone or using a USB DAC to determine whether the issue persists.

Thank you.

Hello, to be honest I already refunded the motherboard as support told me to just invoke my warranty after none of their troubleshooting helped. I'll answer the questions regardless though as I'm curious to know if I missed something.

The bios was up to date at 1003, the HD audio controller was set to enabled, although I did try turning it off and on again just incase. I had uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers probably 7 or 8 times, even going as far to reinstall windows twice. And I'm 99% sure my windows audio and power plan settings were correct. I did try using a USB DAC and the issue didn't persist, however I didn't have another microphone to check.
