ROG STRIX x670E-E Gaming WIfi bio's issues 1905 2007 2124

Lizziezilla
Level 8

I am sending out a APV on BIOS versions ( 1905/2007/2124 )

They all are bugged with Ryzen 7000 series cpu's.

I have the 7900x

After updating from bios version 1904 the system becomes unstable or certain components fail to function.

ISSUES ENCOUNTERED:
Windows 11 BSOD irql_not_less_or_equal
Random USB issues either mouse or Keyboard ( Device Descriptor Failure )
Secondary NMVE drive fails to be recognized on cold boot ( installed on M.2_2 )

I have performed a bios reset before install, have installed via EZ Flash and bios flashback, issues unchanged. Only way to fix these problems is to revert back to bios version 1904.

Asus this needs to be investigated.

UPDATE:

Being the troubleshooter I am, I Flashed back to 1904, found that my second NVME would not mount still so I flash back to 2124. Everything seemed fine after multiple reboots, I shut down and went to bed, woke up, booted my machine to have the drive not mount again.

Looked into event viewer to find this error:

Event 1796, TPM-WMI
The Secure Boot update failed to update a Secure Boot variable with error Secure Boot is not enabled on this machine.. For more information, please see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2169931

From what I am reading so far online is there is some kind of communication issue between the the TPM firmware and windows.

I am going to reinstall windows and see what happens.

Hello @Lizziezilla ,

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Could you please let us know what APV you need to send through the BIOS?
May I ask what the reason is for updating the BIOS to 1904 or a later version, such as seeking an update for the AGESA version or specific functionality?
Regarding the "bugged with Ryzen 7000 series CPUs," does this indicate that you have cross-tested multiple CPUs and encountered the same issue?
Have you made any manual adjustments or overclocking changes in the BIOS when encountering blue screens and error codes?
Do you still experience blue screens if clearing CMOS and booting into the system with default BIOS settings?
Has restoring or resetting the system improved the problem?
If needed, we recommend cross-testing the M.2 slots or other system disks and avoiding the use of any extension cables or adapters.

Thank you.

sharing complete hardware info & software config details will help us better understand the issue 🙂

SO I did more troubleshooting, Disabled unused USB ports, Sata Ports, Manually set link speed according to each component spec with no change, Windows would randomly pick either a USB device or my second NVME drive to freak out on. So last thing I could try is a clean install of Windows 11, did that and it seems to be fine now. So something has changed in the bios to make Windows " freak " out about security or could be a bug on Microsoft's end with how it handles the change.

So it decided to start doing it again. like I said it is completely at random. Like I have said before, everything was fin on bios 1904 then ever since I updated bios my I/O randomly fails or goes undetected by windows. I have deep dived on this issue and it seems there are others having this issue as well on Reddit.

Be better Asus.

I brought the board to work, ( work for a big tech company, we also make motherboards. ) to see if anyone in repair can find anything wrong with the board to see if it is failing. No, even my engineer is baffled, we talked back n fourth on what could be the cause. We all know it has to be bios related, but what part of the bios update that has caused this. Was it the Microcode update? Could it be the secure boot side of it something to do with the TPM?

Due to this and seeing this only effecting Asus AM5 boards and the fact support really isn't trying to figure this whoops out. This is not only my last Asus board but my co workers as well. They don't want to even deal with this, and deal with the possibility of this occurring in their future builds.

Hello @Lizziezilla

We would like to further confirm the current issue you're experiencing.
Kindly verify the scenarios I inquired about earlier, including whether cross-testing the M.2 slots helps rule out the problem, and share the following information to help us identify the issue:
- the image of BIOS main-page and all the manually adjusting items in BIOS, or whether it is the default
- the brand and model name of the CPU, GPU, RAM (part number and installed slots as well), SSD/HDD, and PSU currently installed
- are there any extensions or adapters used to connect any devices, such as GPU or SSD?
- the OS version and OS build
Please understand that we thoroughly verify and test each BIOS version before release.
If possible, provide separate recorded videos of the issue occurring with different BIOS versions, as this will assist us in further verifying the problem.

Thank you.
