ROG STRIX B650-A GAMING WIFI

Hi everyone,

I’m having a serious issue with my new SSD. I recently bought a Samsung 9100 Pro, which is advertised at 14,700 MB/s, but I’m only getting around 3,600 MB/s. When I check in HWiNFO, it shows the drive running at x1 32 GT/s, which explains the low speed.

At first, I thought the SSD itself was faulty, so I updated my BIOS to the latest version, tested different slots, and even tried the SSD in my wife’s PC. Strangely, her system (TUF GAMING B650M-PLUS WIFI) detects the drive properly and gives full performance , even though her motherboard is technically worse than mine.

I contacted ASUS support and gave them every detail they asked for (serial numbers, full system specs, etc.). In the end, they told me the SSD isn’t on the QVL list. But I don’t understand how that would cause the motherboard to only give the drive x1 lanes instead of the correct x4. I understand that being off the QVL can sometimes cause instability or lower-than-advertised speeds — but not even recognizing it as Gen 4/Gen 5 correctly is just crazy.

At this point I’m really stuck and don’t know what else to try. I’ve swapped slots, updated BIOS, reset BIOS, checked PCIe link speed settings , the only option I can change is forcing Gen 4/Gen 5, and nothing fixes it.

If anyone has any idea what I’m missing or what else I can try, I’d really appreciate the help.

Hi @Ozzy98

Lane width detection can be on the CPU side. Have you tried removing the CPU and remounting?

Remove any other storage or I/O devices also
