ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO BIOS 2503 - Slow Boot / Post times

Sentinal13

Prior to updating to the latest BIOS my BIOS start times were sub 13 seconds on a restart, after this latest update to 2503 and 0x129 my Bios start time is +16 seconds with the same settings. This delay is even more pronounced when I try and access my bios using delete or F2 it appears to continue doing something in the back ground and takes an absolute age to get into the settings. Previously it was near instantaneous to get into the bios settings.  Has anyone else experienced these sorts of issues or any pointers ?

I have the same board. It booted reliably before. Now it's a game of chance. Sometimes it boots, sometimes not. IF it boots, it takes 3x as long as before. It just takes an insanely long time for the BIOS to even display the boot screen with the detected devices. From the moment the Windows logo appears, it takes exactly as long as before.

I have tested a few settings. Fast boot off, all default - always the same. Sometimes the system boots, sometimes not. And when it does boot, it takes several minutes.

Sorry to hear that you have the same issues, but at least we know that we are not going mad.    How many memory sticks are you using? I had to set my 4 sticks to ”per IMC” instead of the default of sync IMC.

Hi @Sentinal13 do you have "Restore Memory Context" enabled? This tells the BIOS to use the same memory configuration that it used in the last boot. Normally, BIOS will run a quick test to see what is the best memory timing upon each boot and this could add few extra seconds that you are starting to observe.

EDITED on 4-SEP-2024: This message is mistake on my part. This configuration is for AMD boards and does not apply to Intel boards (which is what we are discussing here). I have stricken my comment here for clarity in case anyone searches up this post so they are not confused with this message.

Hi @MaxH , are you mixing memory kits? Like did you buy 2 kits having 2 sticks in each kit or did you buy 1 kit of memory. Mixing kits is a common reason for having troubles like yours.

Same issue here. I used to be able to hit power, walk into kitchen to grab my cup of coffee that had finished making, walk back, and be at login. Now I get back and its still sitting at the Asus Logo Screen.

Hi @RickJamesBish same question to you as well. Can you please give the exact make and model number of your memory being used? How many sticks are you using? Is it possible for you to post a screenshot of HWiNFO Memory NODE clicked so that memory timings are shown on the right side and the node expanded so that the memory slots being populated are properly shown.

See https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-motherboards/asus-strix-x670e-e-long-boot-time-after-oc-memory/... post of mine where I posted my screenshot of what I am talking about where I helped another individual with a similar issue. This is the screenshot I am asking for anyone having this problem.

Running one of those kits so 32 x 2 for 64 and it is on the supported list. Issue started after last update.

I do not run XMP profile (disabled in bios) and I do not over clock.

Hello @Sentinal13 @MaxH and @RickJamesBish

Memory overclocking settings can indeed lead to longer boot times after a BIOS update and adjustments to related default parameters.
We recommend clearing CMOS and then checking the boot or restart time with the BIOS set to default settings, including without enabled XMP and any memory overclocking or manual configurations.

Thank you.

As the local holiday is ongoing, there may be further delays in responses.
We appreciate your patience in advance.

I do not overclock my Ram or CPU. I am running 2 x 32 (64) of ram that is on the supported list.  I have cleared CMOS and reset the Bios already but issue continues.

Prior to the last firmware update, the Logo Screen with Press F2 or Delete would appear. Keyboard would not be lit but within a few seconds, it would light giving me about 3 seconds to press F2 or DEL, and then it would start to boot.

Now the Logo Screen appears, KB is lit and remains lit while it sits at that screen and then finally starts to boot. This started immediately after the last bios update.
