Hello. I'm seeking advice regarding an issue I'm experiencing with my setup. I'm using a 13900KF, ROG Maximus Z790 Dark Hero, and two kits of DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 8000MHz Trident Z5 RGB Black G.Skill (F5-8000J3848H16GX2-TZ5RK). The problem is that I cannot run the RAM at the XMP profile (8000 MHz) as the BIOS falls into safe mode. After reading about similar issues, I understand that achieving 8000 MHz might only be possible with two memory sticks installed in the A2 and B2 slots.
My question is, can I use two 32GB sticks (for a total of 64GB) or two 48GB sticks and still run the XMP profile to achieve 8000 MHz? If so, could you recommend specific models that would work?

Hi @kindalike
Mixing kits is neither supported or recommended by the memory or motherboard vendors. Memory kits are binned by the memory vendor in the density in which they are sold, meaning the memory vendor does not account for the concessions needed when combining them.
8000MT on the Hero requires a good IMC. For the best possible chance of "plug and play" overclocking without manual intervention or manual timing/frequency concessions, best to purchase a memory kit 2 to 3 bins below the maximum validated frequency for the density in which you wish to run.

I installed 2 kits 64GB(=2X32) 6000 DDR5 Kingston Fury Renegade Silver on a Dark Hero Maximus. I activated the XMP 3 profile 5600 Mhz. If I activate the 6000 Mhz profile I got just a Win 11 fault. Cpuid Rog CPU-Z gives following info for the 4 slots: DDR-6000 (3000Mhz) Maxbandwith with the time tables for XMP-6000/5600/4800 and Dram freq. timings: 2800 Mhz (indeed divided by 2) for 128Gb.
Ps: Bios 1704 and ran the mem tester in the bios and using 4 slots. I prefered more DDR GB and fast SSD's and HD's instead of intial DDR speed. Just because of the bottle necks. 🙂
