When using the Hyper PCIe card only the 1st NVMe is recognized in bios and windows instead of all 4. I've tried tried it in either PCIe slot (removed gpu during test), tried changing bifurcation from AUTO to 8x/8x. Even tried the smaller 2-nvme Hyper card that came with my Z790 Hero. Always shows just the first NVMe.
CPU: 14900k
MOBO: Z790 Dark Hero
M.2_1: empty
PCIEX16(G5)_1: 4090 GPU
M.2_2: Samsung 980 Pro 2TB
M.2_3: Samsung 980 Pro 2TB
M.2_4: empty
M2_5: empty
PCIEX16(G5)_2: HYPER M.2 X16 GEN 5 CARD populated with 2x P3 Plus gen4 4TB and 2x Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2TB
PCIEX4(G4)

Hello @fdgu4567
Thank you for reaching out to us.
We recommend referring to the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 DARK HERO user manual and the responses in this thread regarding installation for the same model:
Upon verification, please refer to the "Connectors with shared bandwidth" section in the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 DARK HERO manual:
- When the Hyper M.2 card is installed in the PCIEX16 (G5) slot without installing a GPU, the motherboard can recognize two SSDs by setting the PCIe Bandwidth Bifurcation Configuration to [X8/X8].
- When the Hyper M.2 card is installed in the PCIEX16(G5) slot along with a GPU in another PCIEX16(G5) slot, the motherboard can only recognize one SSD.
This limitation is due to shared bandwidth, and the M.2_3, M.2_4, and M.2_5 slots, which utilize bandwidth provided by the Z790 chipset, are not affected by the CPU bandwidth.
According to the [Motherboard] Compatibility of PCIE bifurcation between Hyper M.2 series Cards and Add-On Graphic Ca..., the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 DARK HERO model is not listed.
Thank you.

Thanks. Hyper card without gpu was only giving me one ssd but regardless this is disappointing news.

Hi @fdgu4567 I have the same board (see my signature below) and I tried the same card with the same result that ONLY 1 SSD is detected so I returned this card. You can see my conversation with the moderator at https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-motherboards/z790-e-gaming-wi-fi-amp-nvme-support/m-p/1029589
I was also NOT able to get even 2 SSDs working.

Thanks. That's validating. I wasn't mistaken then.
