ROG Hero Z790 QCode 64 Bios 0904 & 1202 Problem

Hi everyone. I keep getting QCode 64 and boot loop after I update to bios 0904. When I roll back to 0816 the machine boots fine. I have tried unplugging everything (USB devices etc.), reseating the RAM, trying one stick of RAM in each DIMM slot ((did that with both sticks)), removed the sound card. I am unsure what is causing it or if it's just a dodgy bios. I have downloaded it a couple of times to hopefully ensure it's not corrupted but that didn't work either. My machine is as follows.

ROG Z790 Hero
Intel 13900KF
32GB Kingston Fury 5600 - KF556C36BBEAK2-32 (I have a feeling this is not on the QVL and might be the root cause of the issue, if someone can verify this is likely my problem, I would appreciate it).

If you need to know anything else or I've missed anything important, let me know.

This is now also happening in Bios 1202. 0816 works fine but anything later it constantly loops. Anyone got any ideas?

Is this at stock or with XMP enabled? "Looping" suggests it's trying to retrain and failing. Could you upload a video?

Stock, no XMP enabled. Video would show nothing. Just a black screen. It doesn't even post with the updated bios.Given the pain I have to go through of getting the computer bios rollback feature I'd rather not install it again. I went through this several times with 0904 and now 1202 is doing exactly the same thing. I honestly wonder if it has something to do with my RAM not being on the QVL list as I mentioned in my initial post. Although the Q code suggest its a USB issue, it still loops with literally EVERYTHING except the video card and one stick of RAM in the box. I do know that some people have 0904 running with non QVL RAM installed though so I can't be sure.

If you can get me a video of the debug code loop this would help. List your complete specs, also. specfically the memory kit PN

Thanks

Thanks for your reply, to start with, the memory kit is listed in the original post along with all my specs that happened to be attached/installed on the board when this happens. If you read on through all the posts, I go on to say I unplugged EVERYTHING, and the issue still occurred except I had to leave video card in because I have the KF series on the CPU. Also if relevant my PSU is a Corsair RM850X. Here is the video requested and IM annoyed to some extent that I had to go through this process again, but I am willing to do it to try and help others find a solution to this problem. Apologies if I sound frustrated but it's because I am. I along with lots of other people paid good money for this board and it's behaving like absolute junk.

What Memory kit?

EDIT: Apologies, hadn't spotted you were the OP. Keep calm 😉. I've sent you a PM. 👍

I'm having the same issue, 0904 and now 1202 are boot looping. 0816 is the most recent bios that works for my system. I'm running 13900k with Teamgroup 2 x 16Gb 7600 kit, and RTX 4090 (Asus strix).

I've tried disconnecting all external USB devices, removing one stick of memory from each slot, cleared CMOS prior to bios upgrade.

I would expect that clearing CMOS should boot system using JEDEC RAM timings (Hynix A-Die in my case) to eliminate any compatibility issues.

I haven't tested removing devices connected to motherboard USB headers yet. I have custom loop so limited access, would require me to drain system first.

Secondly I have an NVME drive in the top slot between GPU and CPU, would be interested to see if removing this makes any difference. Shooting in the dark really, I feel i've exhausted most of the troubleshooting options. My GPU is using only 8x PCI-e lanes, I believe the reason is due to the NVME in the top slot so want to move it anyway. Again requires me to drain system due to access issue.

Strange issue, all the bioses i've tested upto and including 0816 are working...

Hi Vinni-Gee, just wanted to let you know a couple of things. You've done exactly what I have as well as you know. But first, the top NvME slot makes no difference. I moved mine down the bottom to the chipset controller slots. Also if you change the PCIEX16(G4) Configuration to Optane Memory at ROG Hyper M.2_1 and you will get 16x back on your video card slot. There's a lot of bugs in this bios as well. It really needs to be addressed. I've had to mess with it so much I'm almost at the point of returning the board.

Would you be able to take a video of the behaviour?
