Hello,
how many SATA SSDs/HDDs can I connect to the x870E Hero in combination with two M.2 discs? The board itself comes with 4x SATA ports and a slimSAS port. Can I use the slimSAS port to connect more than 4 HDDs/SSDs on the mobo and if yes, what cable do I need? My CPU will be the R9 7950X3D.
Thanks

Hello @Magnum_P_I_
Thank you for reaching out to us.
The ROG CROSSHAIR X870E HERO storage specifications support 5 M.2 slots, 1 SlimSAS connector, and 4 SATA ports, allowing for a maximum of 10 storage devices.
However, the maximum number of SSDs or HDDs that can be connected will depend not only on the motherboard's slot design but also on the available PCIe lanes and may affect speed.
We do not recommend using any extension cables or splitters to connect storage devices, as they may introduce compatibility or stability concerns.
Thank you.

As an additional note, as shown in the screenshot provided above, the SlimSAS speed is PCIe 4.0 x4, and the specification is SFF-8654.
To connect an NVMe storage device, you will need a cable with the following specifications: SFF-8654 (SlimSAS) to SFF-8639 (U.2/3, PCIe 4.0 x4).
Additionally, since there is no SATA mode, each SlimSAS port can only connect to one device.
Thank you.
