ROG Crosshair X670E HERO: Front USB-C no longer works after PD Firmware 110 update

ScaryBandana

Hi,

Since the PD firmware update 110, my front USB-C no longer works. As soon as I downgrade to PD firmware 004, the USB-C connection comes back immediately. I've attached a video about it. I've already tried a CMOS clear and a complete power cycle (power supply off and on again), unfortunately without success. My USB stick is no longer recognized after the FW update and my iPhone 13 Pro Max can no longer be charged either.

Hardware / Software:
CROSSHAIR X670E HERO
O11 Dynamic XL Front USB-C
BIOS 2604
Windows 11 24H2 (26100.2605)

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delayed response.
After thorough consultation and investigation, we have confirmed that PD Firmware version 110 is intended specifically for the USB4 PCIe Gen4 Card update. In light of this, we have redirected this firmware version to the appropriate official webpage.

For the ROG Crosshair X670E HERO motherboard, the latest PD Firmware Update Tool is version 004.

Hi,

I'm having the same issue and the steps outlined by the OP worked to restore my USB-C Ports.  Thanks!

Hello @Vdera

Thank you for participating in the discussion.
In your case, may I ask if rolling back to PD 004 resolves the issue?
To assist us in better understanding your situation, could you kindly refer to the table below and share your hardware and software specifications? This information will help us clarify the scenario.
- the current BIOS version, along with images of the BIOS main page and all manually adjusted settings within the BIOS
- the brand, model, and installation slots or ports of the CPU, GPU, RAM (including part numbers), SSD/HDD, and PSU
- the OS version and build
- the circumstances and frequency of the problem
Additionally, if you could provide a comprehensive video recording highlighting the differences observed before and after updating to PD firmware 110, it would greatly aid us in consolidating the information.

Thank you .

Hello @ScaryBandana

Thank you for reaching out to us and providing detailed explanations along with the video.
While the situation shown in the video appears quite clear, we would like to confirm if there are any other configuration differences beyond the PD firmware version, such as restrictions or settings related to the power mode.

Additionally, we noticed that you previously reported other issues and shared your hardware specifications.

System:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5-6000 CL30 64GB (2x 32GB) (CMH64GX5M2B6000C30)

PSU: Corsair RMx1200 SHIFT
SSDs: SAMSUNG 980 PRO (2TB), WD_BLACK SN850 (500GB) (WDS500G1X0E-00AFY0)

Could you kindly confirm if your current setup remains unchanged? If there are any updates or differences from the previously provided hardware specifications or information, we would appreciate it if you could share those details as well.

Thank you.

I selected the standard Windows 11 "high performance" power plan.

The only thing that has changed in my hardware configuration is the RAM. I have now installed "G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB 64GB DDR5-6000 CL30 (F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR)".

The only change I made in the USB area was that I had to uncheck "Computer can turn off the device to save energy" under "Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 1137" in the Power Management tab in Device Manager, otherwise the USB connection stutters. (USB sound stutters and mouse movement stutters)

I would like to add that I encountered the same issue few minutes ago I updated to PD firmware update 110 and front usb-c stopped working. I reverted to 004 and PD usb-c started working again. Nothing touched in bios (2604) or settings.

My config is:

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D 16-Core Processor 4.20 GHz, 64.0 GB, Windows 11 Pro, 24H2.
