FIXING THE DEFAULT DEVICE

After following the above steps, the audio chain to the default microphone got broken. Even though in the Sound Settings of Windows, I could see Microphone as the default selected device, I could capture from the microphone was just loud static (see static noise in the screenshot below)

To fix this problem, I set the STEREO MIX as the Default Device and then changed my default device back to microphone.

achugh_0-1716565945840.png

Doing this simple step restored my microphone to work again although the problem is still not resolved, and sound is extremely low.

NOTE: I have been using the Windows built-in "Sound Recorder" app to test recording data from the microphone.

Since Two-Way Noise Cancelation software I believe has been properly removed (to the best of my abilities to detect its traces) I am now going to focus on removing "Bongiovi Acoustics" software and its drivers from my system.

Like others have reported in https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-audio/bongiovi-acoustics-audio-enhancements-causes-problems/m-p... thread (DO NOT GO BY THE SOLVED STATUS AS IT IS NOT SOLVED YET) I can confirm the microphone sound starts with a loud bang even though this thread is mostly complaining about the bluetooth speakers (or in other words the Output device). In my case, I am troubleshooting the problem for the Input device.

Hello, @achugh

According to your description, you need to shout loudly for the microphone volume indicator to respond.
Could you please clarify if this issue occurred after the PC was first built or after using it for some time and occurred following any recent changes, such as a BIOS update or component replacement?
Have you tried connecting to the rear panel port or testing with another headset with a microphone?
We recommend referring to the following two FAQs for troubleshooting or using the MyASUS diagnostic function.
[Windows 11/10] Troubleshooting - Sound (Speakers/Microphones) problems
Troubleshooting - Why is the microphone volume still low after adjusting
Additionally, check if the microphone issue persists in safe mode, and if necessary, consider checking again after resetting the system while keeping your files.

Thank you.

As the local holiday is ongoing, there may be further delays in responses.
We appreciate your patience in advance.

Hi @Jiaszzz_ROG for looking into my issue.

Could you please clarify if this issue occurred after the PC was first built or after using it for some time and occurred following any recent changes, such as a BIOS update or component replacement?

The issue is happening on a completely fresh installation of Windows 11 and I have fully formatted this machine multiple times with no working solution.

Have you tried connecting to the rear panel port or testing with another headset with a microphone?

I have not tried the Rear Port because my headset has 3 PIN (2 for Stereo Headset and 1 for Mic). They go into the ASUS ProArt PA602 Front Panel adapter properly as it has a HD Audio Combo adapter (see ProArt PA602|Cases|ASUS Global) which basically is one connector for both headphone and mic into 1 PIN with 3 rings on the pin. The Windows 11/10 Trobuleshooting guide calls this single connector as HEADSET and that is what I have. It cannot be plugged into the back which requires a separate Headphone and a separate Microphone.

We recommend referring to the following two FAQs for troubleshooting or using the MyASUS diagnostic function.
[Windows 11/10] Troubleshooting - Sound (Speakers/Microphones) problems
Troubleshooting - Why is the microphone volume still low after adjusting

I read the MyASUS Diagnostic Function guide. The guide does not talk about troubleshooting audio problems. What do would you like me to do i.e. which section of the guide would you like me to follow?

You may have not gotten a chance to read this thread in its entirety but I already tried uninstalling the Two-Way Noise Cancellation software as well as these Bongiovi Drivers (which in the guide are referred as IntelliGo Drivers). These IntelliGo Drivers are part of the Armoury Create Motherboard SDK installer (currently installed v3.00.25 which is the latest version reported) and hence are not easy to uninstall.

Additionally, check if the microphone issue persists in safe mode, and if necessary, consider checking again after resetting the system while keeping your files

I will try Safe Mode and confirm back. I have not tried Safe Mode.

Whatever I have troubleshooted with respect to Audio Driver issues, I have submitted Can ASUS Support Fix Realtek Audio Drivers with Bo... - Republic of Gamers Forum - 1019556 for request as well.

What can I do to fix the low microphone volume on my ROG Maximus Z790 Dark Hero motherboard running Windows 11, and how can I ensure my microphone is properly recognized and functioning correctly?
