QCODE (Q Code) 53 on ROG Maximus Z790 Hero

There have been a bunch of posts about this but no real answer and I'm almost 100% sure this is software related (BIOS) but ROG is just telling me to RMA the board, which I don't really want to do given all the other threads with the same issue.

PROBLEM: Typically during reboots after any kind of update (Video card, windows, whatever), my POST will hang with a Q CODE 53 and orange light. I have to do a hard power off and then restart to get it to POST again, which forces a BIOS visit where all settings are fine and then restarts normally from there. I have run two different memory modules with the same result. I am on the newest BIOS and controller. I have tried all XMP profiles as well as AUTO. I can't get ASUS/ROG to actually troubleshoot with me outside of just "RMA the board".

Has anyone had any luck fixing this? It works perfectly and runs smoothly except for this issue, so while a nuisance, it's not really enough for me to want to take apart my entire build to most likely get another motherboard that will do the same exact thing.

MOBO: ROG Maximus Z790 HERO (1202 BIOS with updated controller per instructions on BIOS update)

Hi Jiaszzz_ROG,

Thanks for the reply. I have tried to answer all of your questions as well as I can below:

1) It almost always happens on a Windows Update reboot or video card reboot, but has also happen on a normal restart as well (could have been a background software update I'm unaware of.

2) What driver do you want me to uninstall and reinstall? Most of these updates are not driver updates (except graphics), most are just standard windows update updates.

3) BIOS is 1202, ME is 16.1.27.2176, Win 11 Pro (Version 22H2, OS Build 22621.2134), memory is correctly installed in A2/B2

4) Memory has already been RMA's and is on the approved list for both ROG and G Skill for my setup

5) If I clear CMOS, use default, don't use XMP, single slot A2, yes the issue still occurs.

I haven't been able to get a video yet.

@Jiaszzz_ROG i was have the same problem with G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series 64GB i found that its conflicts with mb rgb aura sync or armory crate so what i did to solve my problem  downloaded gskill rgb controller to control the ram rgb and un check ram rgb control in armory crate don't let armory crate control ram rgb . now im running my pc about 1 month without code 53 on restart

my spec

CPU: 13900k

MB: z790hero

RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series 64G

I absolutely agree with what resco0 wrote. True, I made it easier, downloaded special software for the complete removal of Armory Create and completely removed Armory Create. So far, I don’t see code 53 when I reboot.

hi, after follow ur advice, i uncheck ram at armoury crate, until now no restart issue.

conclusion is armoury crate make this problem happend? or bios version?

any chance future update fix this problem?

did this problem happend to all z790 hero with g.skill trident z5? coz only few people share an issue here. maybe other ppl with 790 hero with g.skill ram not have this issue?

why asus moderator not give any word? did they realize we have an issue here?

After the bios update 1303 i have no issues but i think some people have problems again. Not sure but i try to uncheck ram in armory crate too

Same issue, 53 after reboots,  did a full memtest and rams not issue

But, I reboot and power on/off for about 10 times respectively after updating to BIOS 1303, so far so good.
