Im just wondering if it's a big deal having my RTX 4080 runing at 8x ?

Im using the other PCIE slot for a 10gbit network card and i dont want to get rid of it unless it degrades the gpu

by a lot but i would doubt it?

im runing 3x nvme m2

1 pcie 10gbit network .

thanks !

What model of z790 please so i can check the manual

Adding a network card DOES NOT DEGRATE DE CPU. that has NOTHING with it. degradation is about pushing more volts than needed. that was fix with last bios from last year. This does NOT fix cpu that was use for more than a year.

i didnt talk about any cpu tough , im talking about the GPU , i know it dosent do anything to the cpu , my question was the GPU runing at 16X VS 8X

i know adding a network card shares the pci lanes with the gpu , but im not convinced it does a big difference for the gpu

thanks !

i like to run my gpus on 16x. some say that is minimal but i you use the gpu to render etc etc you do see a difference on gaming not so much.

ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI

Thanks

For that board

When a nvme is added on M2_1 , PCIEX16(G5) will run x8 only (that is whre is the gpu under the cpu.)

. You can still use M2_2 that is cpu for the os on Gen4

After some data check.

if you drop something on the second pcie one will also do 8x. you can do on the last pcie. the manual does not mention anything on that you can drop the nic card there. If is there, then there is nvme on  M2_1

yah oddly it dosent mention it i know i tough i was good but unfortunatly not the past pcie " my network card" also counts so it makes GPU run 8x not 16 , i dont have any nvme in top slot .. such a dumb design they know the GPU is huge , blocks most pci anyways.. o well

all boards has its up and down. what you have on the LAST pcie lane in the board?

10gbit network card , so that is probably taking 8 lanes and gpu 8 lanes , because my 3 nvme are at the bottum

yes but where is installed, on the second or the last pcie express
