PC won't boot after installing new RAM with same speed, size and latency as old RAM

Hey All

I recently purchased 2x 2x8GB (4 sticks total) Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO CL16 to replace my old T-FORCE ones of the same size, latency and speeds.

The reason I was replacing them was after 3-4 years my T-FORCE RAM seems to become faulty giving me BSODs every day and frequent application crashes (even with XMP off).

Once I received the new RAM I have installed them initially with each pair in A1/B1 & A2/B2 although the PC will not boot. I get no display and usually the DRAM Q-LED on the motherboard is a solid Orange OR sometimes it will flick between CPU and DRAM Q-LEDs.

Troubleshooting completed:

  • Tested each stick in 1 slot (working)

  • Tested 1 stick in each slot (working)

  • Tested 1 pair in slot A1/B1 & A2/B2 (2 sticks installed) [working]

  • Tested 3 sticks (working)

  • Cleared CMOS

  • Ensured my XMP profiles are off and presenting at default 2133 MHz

  • Recently updated BIOS (so most likely not the cause)

  • Thought potentially it was memory testing but gave up after 30-40 mins

  • Issue only occurs when I have all 4 installed

  • Re-installed my old 4 sticks of RAM of same speeds (working)

I'm kind of at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

My setup:
MOBO: Z490-F GAMING
CPU: 108050-k
GPU: ROG STRIX 2080TI OC
PSU: Super Flower LEADEX III 850W GOLD

Hi @RamadanSteve, it is not recommended to mix kits like you are trying to do. If you need 4 sticks, you need to buy a kit that comes with 4 sticks.

More details about why 2 different kits into the system causes issue are detailed in https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/technologies-explained/memory-kits-overclocking-and-what-you-may-not-k... post. There is a single comment which has a link to YouTube video explaining about memory kits in case you get better understanding via watching YouTube instead of reading the content of the post.

If you can, please return both these kits and get a single kit that has 4 sticks in it. Also when you decide which 4 stick kit you are going to buy, check your board's QVL and if possible select form this list over any generic kit provided by the memory manufacturer.

I hope this information helps you move forward. Good luck!
