No Post & DRAM light: X870-A + 9800X3D + Corsair 6000mhz CL30

Fresh build on the Strix X870-A Gaming WiFi board,
I am getting no post, solid orange DRAM Q-LED.

9800X3D and Corsair Dominator Titanium 6000MHz CL30 32Gb X 2
This exact ram is on the QVL: CMP64GX5M2B6000Z30 (Ver 5.43.01)

DIMMS are in A2/B2, have tried reseating both, booting with only one, reseating CPU, checking for bent socket pins, and updated to Safedisk's 0706 BIOS using USB flashback. At no point have I gotten display or anything other than solid orange DRAM Q-Led. I have also just left it on for an hour to make sure it wasn't training. The ram RGBLEDs do light up, fwiw.

The only other (possibly) relevant fact is that I have no GPU installed yet, as I am testing this build before moving over my 4090 from current build. That shouldn't matter, right? My display is plugged into the mobo displayport.

I just want to get it working so if you have suggestions for comparable (64gb or 48gb, 6000mhz, CL30) ram that is actually known and tested to work, please lmk so I can order it asap.

Thanks!

Hey, just wanted to update the thread here...
I unfortunately have no local tech resellers or really anyone within 50 miles who has sys building expertise, so I am on my own ordering parts online to troubleshoot.

I had the idea to try another 9000 series CPU that is in stock to rule out my 9800X3D being faulty. So I bought a 9700X and installed it today in the X870-A. Still the same issue with solid orange DRAM light! I tried it with both the Corsair and G.Skill modules listed above --and left the system running for an hour each-- to make sure.

Since I have ruled everything else out, it's the motherboard at fault.

At least my nightmare is over, and hopefully this thread can be helpful to someone else. I know that when I was searching for information on Asus memory training, the results were terrible, with anecdotes from reddit etc saying wildly contradictory things about the time and indicators of DDR5 training, and the official Asus documentation being way too generalized to be useful.

Anyway, I'll be moving on from Asus but I appreciate the helpful input here!

Hi @concubro

Have you tried with just one module in slot A2 and waited 15-20 minutes?

Thanks for the response!
I did try that, well over 20 min even. Even with one DIMM in A2, doesn't post, solid orange DRAM light.

i'm building something similar (7900x3d and corsair vengeance 16x2) and i couldn't get any visuals until i only ran with one ram stick in slot b2. booted up after a minute or two, and the next time i was able to boot with ram in both a2 and b2.
now, i can't install windows because the mobo can't find internet. i am so unimpressed and frustrated with the rog strix x870-a.

I have bought the G.Skill 6000 C30 32Gb x2 kit listed in the QVL (F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR) as a last ditch effort to get this thing to boot, but frankly I'm pretty unimpressed that it doesn't work with the Corsair RAM in the QVL. I'm tempted to just return it and go with the tomahawk which anecdotally seems to have better RAM compatibility.

Ironically I dealt with this issue with my previous Asus board, a TUF x570, for which I had to go through three sets of RAM before finding one that would boot at listed speeds. Surely this time would be different, I told myself as I bought this one...

It doesn't relate to the QVL. It should run at stock (no EXPO overclocking), so compatibility isn't the issue. You should probably contact the stockist from whom you purchased it. It could possibly be the CPU, too.

Appreciate that! I tried again today with the G.Skill RAM and still the same result, so at this point I will be trying a different motherboard.

I would try to swap out the 9800X3D but it's out of stock everywhere! If the motherboard swap doesn't work then the CPU will be my last thing to replace. Thanks for again for the input.

Yeah, 9800X3D stock is still hard to come by. Perhaps see if the stockist or a sys integrator can test the board for you.

Initial DRAM Training can take 3 to 5 minutes or more depending on the memory (which often confuses people into thinking there's a problem), perhaps make sure to leave the system long enough with the new memory kit, too.

If it's just the DRAM Q-LED then it's obviously detecting something. Sorry you're so remote where you are.

I must say, in 30-plus years I've never had a DOA board. I must have had hundreds, all ASUS. I wouldn't let one misadventure put you off a brand. Especially without getting someone to properly inspect the system.
