no boot with all new build with ASUS ROG STRIX X870-A, no video output

I just built a new PC using the below listed parts. Upon plugging in and powering on, the fans twitch a sec, the RGB on MB and RAM come on, but I get no video output. The QLED lights on MB do not come on showing anything wrong but I get nothing else. If I pull the RAM I get the QLED showing RAM issue so.... I don't know what else to do, any suggestions?

Hi @Mike2567

1. Be sure to leave the system for 3 to 5 minutes or so on the initial boot. This is because memory training can take some time depending on the configuration.

2. If still no POST, inspect the CPU socket and CPU pin-pad for any debris or damage. Reseat the CPU whilst ensuring consistent mounting pressure.

3. If using a CPU contact frame, remove it and use the stock retention mechanism.

Thanks for the quick response! I left it on for 30 minutes or so and still no post, removed the cpu and inspected socket and do not see anything wrong. I did not use anything other than the stock retention as well. I am at wits end here, getting no Q-LED lights indicating errors is odd considering I get no video output/POST.

Thanks. Are you using the iGPU as I can't see a discrete GPU listed?

Try with a single DIMM inserted into slot A2.

I have tried two different GPU's, both from other running PC's. I have not tried an internal GPU, actually thought the 7800X3D did not have one. I will try this tonight as well as the single DIMM. Thanks!

I tried the internal GPU, and the single DIMMs with no luck. Also tried the following..

  • replaced the corsair AIO hub with another new one, because I had one, just to see, fan RGBs never come on
  • tried using another radiator/fan cooler
  •  Removed the M.2 SSD
  • multiple GPUs

Thinking maybe I have a power supply issue? I noticed that when I hit the power button and the RGBs on the MB and RAM light up, the PS fan does not run.

I may rob PS from another PC and try

Hello @Mike2567

Based on the situation you described, in addition to the suggestions provided by Silent_Scone, there may be an issue with improper hardware installation.
We recommend reviewing the detailed hardware installation steps and guidelines outlined in the ROG STRIX X870-A GAMING WIFI user manual to ensure that your current hardware setup is correct.
For example, please check if the CPU might have bent pins, if it is installed too loosely or tightly, or if the power cables are fully inserted into their respective ports.

Thank you.

Due to the local holidays, my responses may be slightly delayed.
For any urgent cases, we recommend reaching out to your local service center for further assistance. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Everything was/is installed correctly. The problem turned out to be a bad, brand new power supply. The ASUS TUF Gaming 1000W ps is not outputting proper voltages a several pins. Already ordered a replacement.

Well, still not completely resolved. Why I said it was a bad power supply is I installed an older PS (EVGA 600W 80 Plus Certified PS, not modular) and my system came up and into BIOS. This made me believe the new PS I bought (ASUS TUF Gaming 1000W Gold White Edition, 80+ Gold Certified PS, Modular) was bad. So requested a replacement, which is gonna take a week or so. In the mean time I bought an 850W PS from Best Buy to use till my 1000W came in. I bought the Thermaltake - Toughpower GF A3 850W 80 PLUS Gold PCIe Gen 5 ATX 3.0 Ready Fully Modular Power Supply and it does exactly like the ASUS one.

WHY???? I am certainly confused on this!

So....

  • OLD - EVGA 600W 80 Plus Certified PS, not modular - WORKS
  • NEW - ASUS TUF Gaming 1000W Gold White Edition, 80+ Gold Certified PS, ATX 3.0 Compatible, Modular - NOT WORK
  • NEW - Thermaltake - Toughpower GF A3 850W 80 PLUS Gold PCIe Gen 5 ATX 3.0 Ready Fully Modular Power Supply - NOT WORK

Is this motherboard not compatible with certain power supplies? ATX 3.0 Compatible???
