Hi all,
I’m having trouble getting audio to work on my new ROG STRIX B650E-E build with Windows 11.
Settings → System → Sound lists no output devices (screenshots below).
Device Manager lists only three Sound Controller entries:
- AMD High Definition Audio Device
- AMD High Definition Audio Device
- AMD Streaming Audio Device
None of which match the expected “Realtek USB Audio” that others reported for the ALC4080 audio chip that the B6550E-E supposedly includes.
Motherboard: ROG STRIX B650E-E GAMING WIFI
OS: Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.319
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
BIOS: American megatrends Inc 3208, 2025-02-10
I installed the Chipset and Audio drivers from https://rog.asus.com/de/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b650e-e-gaming-wifi-model/helpdesk_download...
For this I tried both executing the .exe and .bat files in the archive and installing via Device Manager menu. Looked successful (if not very explicit about it).
I also launched Armoury Crate and its Drivers page listed the audio driver as installed and did not suggest any additional driver installs. I removed Armoury Crate again after that.
Any ideas what I might be missing? I’ll be happy to supply more information if that helps.
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hello @strat87
Thank you for reaching out to us.
Could you please clarify whether this issue has been present since the initial PC build or if it started occurring after a period of use, possibly following a recent change such as a BIOS update or component replacement?
After updating to BIOS 3208, have you cleared CMOS and ensured that the Audio Controller (Onboard Audio) and USB Audio Controller settings are enabled in the BIOS?
In Settings > System > Sound, is Realtek USB Audio detected? Does running the Troubleshoot Audio tool provide any useful insights?
Additionally, as the ALC4080 is a Realtek USB audio controller, we recommend referring to [Windows 11/10] Change Power Mode and Plan and ensuring that there are no power-saving restrictions or USB port limitations that might be affecting functionality.
Meanwhile, could you also share details about your current audio device, which motherboard ports you have tested, and whether you have cross-tested with other devices? Please refer to [Motherboard]Troubleshooting-Audio with no sound if needed.
Thank you.

Hi and thanks for your reply!
I have since then worked around the problem by installing an additional PCI-E soundcard. So I’m happy now despite the onbaord sound not working. No need to investigate further for my benefit.
To still answer your questions: the problem had been present since the initial PC build. Updating BIOS to 3208 did not change anything. I did not clear CMOS after the BIOS upgrade (my bad), but I did check that the audio controller settings are enabled in BIOS.
Settings > System > Sound detected nothing, Troubleshoot Audio tool did not help. Changing Power Mode and Plan is also something I did not attempt.
As for the actual audio device (I assume you mean speakers/headphones), I tried several, both with S/PDIF and analog connection.
I already tried all the steps listed in the linked “Troublehsooting-Audio with no sound” article.
As I said, I’m happy now with the PCI-E soundcard. I’ll still leave this up, since your response may be helpful to future readers.
Thanks again!
