Newbie question about monitors from thunderbolt ports...

Hi, I'm running the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO board with an old Nvidia G710 graphic card and was wondering if I could use the 2 thunderbolt ports on the motherboard to feed monitors (with usbC-HDMI cables) to unload the burden on that old graphic card ? I tried simply plugging a monitor with the above cable but there's no signal.

Would I have to remove the graphic card so the mobo switches to its own HDMI and thunderbolt ports to be able to make it work ?

Hello @Mobohofo

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Based on the display output specifications of the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO, we confirm that it features two onboard Thunderbolt 4 (USB Type-C) ports.

However, we are not entirely clear on the configuration you are aiming to achieve.
May I ask if you are looking to install an Nvidia G710 GPU on the motherboard as the display output, with the monitor connected to the motherboard’s Thunderbolt 4 port instead of being powered through its own power cable?
Could you please provide the brand and specifications of your monitor, as well as a topology diagram of your setup? This will help us better understand your current configuration requirements.
Additionally, if the monitor is properly connected to a power source, does it power on as expected?

Thank you.

The G710 GPU is already installed, with 4 monitors plugged in. I'd simply like to use one of these 4 monitors thru one of the thunderbolt ports as an attempt to ''give the G710 a break'' cause I'm starting to get some glitches sometimes with my monitors.
The monitor I'd feed with the thunderbolt got it's own power (120v) ; it's an Asus VP228 monitor and the cable I'm trying to use is a USB-C (t-bolt) to HDMI at the monitor.

Hello @Mobohofo

We apologize for the delayed response. Could you kindly share the specifications of your current CPU?
If the CPU does not support integrated graphics, the onboard Thunderbolt port will not be able to output video signals.

Thank you.
