New ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO BIOS 2124 still does not fix CPU temp sensor fail on reboots or the vanishing M.2 slot on anything past 1807. Feeling like Asus isn't taking this seriously.

I also have issue with the Asus X670e Hero m.2_4 slot.

However my case is more complicated because I use m.2 to Sff8643 adapter than sff8643 to sff8643 cable to icy dock ToughArmor MB720MK-B. Than I have samsung 980 pro ssd installed inside vantec MRK-NVM2U2-BK. (m.2 to u.2). It seems m.2_4 slot will random disappear and benchmark speed is much lower than m.2_3 with same samsung 980 pro 1tb ssd. (m.2_3 is about 5000mb/s read and write while m.2_4 is only around 2000 mb/s read write.)

I have tried change sff8643 cable, m.2 to sff8643 adapter, different bay on icy dock mobile rack and none of those seems help.

M.2_4 slot will random disappear and sometimes m.2_slot will also disappear during benchmark.

I couldn't reproduce the problem with the lower read/write rate, the values are normal for me. My SAMSUNG 980 PRO 2TB is installed in the M2_4 slot.

BIOS version 2308, one run was done with NVMe Raid mode Enabled and one with NVMe Raid mode Disabled.

bios version 2308, CPU ryzen 9 7950x.  EVGA RTX 3070 FTW, CORSAIR Dominator Platinum 2x32 DDR5-6000 Both E and F drives are Samsung 980 pro.

This was memory is set at Expo Tweet. I had trouble to get system post with Expo 2 as post stuck at A2.

This was F drive. It was second benchmark as I forgot to save the screen shot after benchmark and had to rerun the benchmark. However Crystal Disk Mark stopped half way and F drive become inaccessible.

I had to shut down PC and do cold start. While at it I change memory to Expo 2 and was able to post.

The F drive benchmark still suffer and I make sure the connection speed is gen 4 in the bios setting.

As for C and D Drive they always have consist with great benchmark score.

I used to be able to get 4000mb/s after cold post, however drive would disappear or become inaccessible.

I also notice F drive often become inaccessible during benchmark, or during gaming section when video card is at high load. I checked  AI suite and notice chipset 2 is always 10 degree higher than chipset 1. I am not sure if my m.2_4 is always like this because m.2_4 had silverstone ECS07 (5 sata expansion card installed.). I had to remove silverstone ecs07 because it will cause post to stuck at 99. I also have difficuity to find pci-e 1x sata card that work with X670e hero. I went through several return with amazon and finally found one I can post system with.

Hello @hchsiao,

Thank you for reaching out to us.
The situation reported by ScaryBandana has been replicated by our technical team, and we are currently researching further resolution.
In the meantime, we recommend rolling back to the previous BIOS version (in ScaryBandana's case, 2007) to address the issue with the M.2_4 slot not being recognized after sleep mode or wake cycles.

Based on your description, we advise you to remove all adapters and directly install the SSD in the M.2_4 slot to check the access status and read/write speeds in order to rule out potential hardware anomalies, signal degradation, increased latency, or compatibility issues.
Regarding your follow-up mention of the memory not posting after overclocking, could you please provide the complete part number of the memory and confirm whether it is installed in the DIMM_A2 and B2 slots?

Additionally, please refer to the Memory Kits - Overclocking and What You May Not Know.

Thank you.

Hi Thank you for the reply.

I think i may found out what is my problem. I did a lot of test with different bios and all seems the same that m.2_4 has big performance issue.  I decide to remove GLOTRENDS SA3034A 4 Ports PCIe SATA 3.0 Expansion Card from the pci-e 1x slot and to my surprise  m.2_4 read speed back to normal.

Does x670e hero pci-e 1x slot effect m.2_4? There should be enought pcie lane for m.2_3, m.2_4 and pci-e 1x right?

Glortrends sa3034a 4 port pcie sata card is the only card I found working with x670e hero.  I tried vantec UGT-ST644R and system fail to post. I tried 2 different IO crest SY-PEX40166 card,  while system can post some of drives won't show up.

After few more testing The pci-ex1 is definitely effect m.2_4

removed the pci-e 3.0x1 sata card from pci-e_x1

f 09-26-2024-pcie_x1-removed.png

pci-e_x1 set at gen 2 after cold post

f 09-26-2024-pcie_x1-gen2.png

pci-e_x1 set at gen 2 re-test after 30 min. (after moving files from the disk connect to pci-e 3.0 x1 sata card to sata drive that connect to motherboard sata.)

f 09-26-2024-pcie_x1-gen2-2.png

pci-e_x1 set at gen 3

f 09-26-2024-pcie_x1-gen3.png

pci-e_x1 set at gen 4

f 09-26-2024-pcie_x1-gen4.png

Once again remove the pci-e 3.0 x1 sata card from pci-e_X1 slot

f 09-26-2024-pcie_x1-removed-2.png

My previous benchmark when m.2_4 show poor performace 1000~2000, PCI-EX1 was set at gen 4.

I tried to use vantech ugt-st644r, post will stuck at either b2 or a2. (I do enable CSM in bios.)

When I use GLOTRENDS SA3034A 4 Ports PCIe SATA 3.0 card on pci-e_x1 slot. Sometimes post will stuck at 94. If i force turn off pc and restart. Post will post into safe mode and there is good chance m.2_4 will disappear.

One last update.

While I fixed m.2_4 speed issue by removing the pci-e _x1 sata card. I noticed the m.2_4 drive still vanish when run benchmark.  Unlike previouslly the drive would vanish or folder become inaccessible in windows file explorer. This time I can still browse folder however i am not able to execute any file or app that installed in the drive.

I used the beta bios 2401 and whatever reason it seems to mess up the bios flashback. (I made sure bios flashback is enabled in the bios.) The bios flashback bottom would flash for few second before become solid blue light. It is the same usb drive that i flashback bios at least 5 times last couple days before I updated to 2401, I also tried 3 different flash drives all resulted same solid blue light.

At this point I guess i can only wait for asus to release new bios, I suppose I can work around it by move m.2_4 ssd to pciex16_2 and run video card at x8.

I think x870e hero is coming out but x870e hero has even lass sata port.  It is a lot of downsize for me cus before I upgrade to x670e hero & 7950x I was using i7 6900k and X99 pro.

I have installed the new BIOS version 2403 as a test. The M.2 problem has not yet been fixed, but unfortunately a new bug has appeared in this area. Since BIOS version Beta 2401, the “NVMe RAID mode” function has been defective. Although this can be enabled visually (it is also displayed as enabled), it remains disabled internally. This can be seen from the fact that the RAIDxpert2 Utility option is not displayed after activation and a restart. Normally, after enabling NVMe RAID mode, the list of M.2 SSDs under Storage Information in the EZ view should have disappeared. However, since it is still displayed, this is another sign that NVMe RAID mode has not been enabled internally.

Do you know which old bios version that m.2_4 wont' disappear? I rolled back to 1709 and m.2_4 still disappear.

In my case version 2007.
