New ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO BIOS 2124 does not fix CPU temp sensor or vanishing M.2 slot

New ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO BIOS 2124 still does not fix CPU temp sensor fail on reboots or the vanishing M.2 slot on anything past 1807. Feeling like Asus isn't taking this seriously.

Hello, what temp sensor issue are you speaking about? I've not read anything about this and I thought the M.2 issue was resolved in an AGESA update months ago?

There are several reports on this forum of the CPU sensor reporting "high" temp errors on reboot. The same as I am experiencing on any bios version 1807 and above. The M.2 drive disappearing on resume from sleep, still happening, Sadly.

Hello, @neurosys

Could you please clarify if this issue occurred during the initial build of the PC, or did it start happening after some time following specific software or hardware changes, such as updating to a certain BIOS version or changing the CPU?
Could you confirm which BIOS versions exhibit the described issue and whether the problem persists after clearing CMOS and booting under default BIOS settings?

Regarding the CPU temp sensor fail on reboots, are you checking the CPU temperature in the BIOS or within the OS?
For the M.2 slot not being recognized, is it a specific M.2 slot that fails to be recognized, and have you tried cross-testing the SSD in different slots or installing another SSD to see if the issue persists?

To help us better understand your issue, please provide the following information:
-the images of BIOS main-page and all the manually adjusting items in BIOS, or whether it is the default
- the brand and model name of the CPU, GPU, RAM (part number and installed slots as well), SSD/HDD, and PSU currently installed
- are there any extensions or adapters used to connect any devices, such as GPU or SSD?
- the OS version and OS build
- the circumstances and frequency of the problem
- Videos show the CPU temp sensor fail on reboots and the M.2 slot not being recognized.
Please perform and record three reboots to help us determine if this is an intermittent issue.

Thank you.

This happens in every BIOS version later than 1807.  Yes I cleared BIOS. Ran as default.

Yes, the CPU sensor is simply reporting inaccurately in BIOS on reboots.

I have not tested moving the M2. As that would be laborious and pointless IMHO, as the issue stops when I rollback the BIOS.

While I'm all for helping you all beta test your BIOS updates, this is not what I expect from a top-tier board. Quite frankly I do not have the time or luxury to help you with free QA. A lot of complaints about ASUS QA and quality over the recent years demonstrates I am not alone in my disappointment.

I would respectfully suggest you go back to your leadership and express this. As a technology service provider & founder myself, I would never send the burden back to our clients.  A suggestion: if you need this data to debug properly, you should have a method to allow users to gather that system data off their machines, and allow them to submit that information to you directly, via your (horrendous) app, Armory Crate, or CPU-Z or however. Not submit your customers to an hour+ long research project on providing specific versions, tearing apart. their builds, etc.

Hello @neurosys

Issues with Armoury Crate, such as the inability to manually adjust lighting effects or failed updates, are typically diagnosed by obtaining Armoury Crate logs to further identify possible issues or configuration errors.
When requesting logs, we will also inquire about relevant hardware information and request synchronized recording during log capture.

As we lack information on the specific scenario you described regarding CPU sensor anomalies or M.2 drive read issues after sleep mode, it would be helpful to verify the issue if you could provide detailed hardware specifications and relevant results, such as BIOS setting images of anomalies or videos of operational issues.
However, since the motherboard is an open-platform product, without details about your hardware configuration, problem context, and related settings, it will be difficult for us to identify potential anomalies, especially since the released BIOS versions have been thoroughly validated.
We recommend conducting cross-tests or following the troubleshooting steps in "SSD Disappears or Crashes when Resuming from Sleep or During Normal Use." and considering whether repair is necessary if you have any concerns about the hardware.

Thank you.

Hi,
I also have the problem of the M.2 SSD disappearing after waking up from sleep and hope to be able to provide more details.

In my case, the problem only occurs when my SAMSUNG 980 PRO (2TB) is put into the M2_4 slot. If I put the SAMSUNG SSD into another M2 slot or put another SSD (WD SN850 500GB) into the M2_4 slot, the problem does not occur. Likewise, the problem only occurs from BIOS version 2124 (including 2204). Version 2007 has been running smoothly so far. The problem occurs in both Windows and Ubuntu, so it is probably not a driver problem. If the SSD disappeared after waking up, this left an error in the Windows Event Viewer (stornvme, ID 11, The driver found a controller error on \Device\RaidPort4). What is also noticeable when the problem occurs is that the system takes noticeably longer to restart/shut down (the moment after the Windows shutdown/restart text disappears until the system shuts down or restarts). Something is probably timing out at this moment.

I have already tried the normal troubleshooting such as firmware updates for the SSDs, clearing the CMOS and only running the default settings, unfortunately without success. The Samsung SSD has already been RMA exchanged for this reason; it is not a defective SSD.

I hope that I have been able to provide a little more detail and perhaps help identify the problem.

System:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5-6000 CL30 64GB (2x 32GB) (CMH64GX5M2B6000C30)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX (MBA)
PSU: Corsair RMx1200 SHIFT
SSDs: SAMSUNG 980 PRO (2TB), WD_BLACK SN850 (500GB) (WDS500G1X0E-00AFY0)

Hello @ScaryBandana

Thank you for providing the details about your situation and hardware specifications.
Could you please confirm whether the current motherboard model you are using is also the ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO, or is it a different model within the same series?
Based on your description:
- When the SAMSUNG 980 PRO (2TB) is installed in the M.2_4 slot, the system fails to recognize the SAMSUNG 980 PRO (2TB) after waking up from sleep mode
- This issue does not occur when a WD SN850 500GB is installed in the same slot or when the SAMSUNG 980 PRO (2TB) is tested in other M.2 slots
- BIOS version 2007 does not exhibit this issue, but the problem occurs with BIOS versions 2124 and 2204
- The SAMSUNG 980 PRO (2TB) has already been sent for repair, but the issue persists

Could you please confirm the following details to help us better understand the scenario?
- A screenshot of the BIOS main page
- The firmware versions of both SSDs, as well as the Windows OS and build version
- As the issue occurs on both Windows and Ubuntu, which drive is the OS installed on, and is the Samsung SSD used as the system drive?
- In Windows, have you tried resetting the system while keeping your files, and does the issue still occur afterward?
If there are any other potentially relevant settings or configurations that might have been overlooked, such as whether RAID is configured or screenshots of the power management settings in Windows, kindly include that information as well.

Thank you.

Hello,
I actually use the ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO.

Firmware versions:
SAMSUNG 980 PRO: 5B2QGXA7
WD_BLACK SN850: 613200WD

Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (Build 22631.4112)
BitLocker disabled.

Windows is currently installed on the WD_BLACK SN850 and my Games are currently installed on the SAMSUNG 980 Pro. A week ago I hadn't installed the WD_BLACK SN850 yet and therefore had everything including Windows on the SAMSUNG 980 PRO. There, as soon as the system went to sleep, the system crashed and restarted because the system drive had disappeared.
I initially suspected a software problem, which is why I reinstalled Windows and took the opportunity to install the WD_BLACK SN850 as the system drive. Then I noticed that after waking up from sleep, the SAMSUNG 980 PRO always disappeared.

The system is not overclocked, there is no RAID running, and for power management I have currently selected the normal balanced power plan. Before the new installation I had the maximum performance power plan.
