Trying to decide on an ATX option for my build as the first board I ordered had some issue in shipping from Amazon and never arrived.
Asus ROG Strix 790-A Gaming https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-z790-a-gaming-wifi-model/
Asus Maximus Z690 Hero https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-maximus/rog-maximus-z690-hero-model/https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-maximus/rog-maximus-z690-hero-model/
My build is https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/YZkbsL
The Strix I can get for $469.99 from amazon
The Maximus is $449.99 from Best Buy
I probably will never overclock the CPU (12700kf), but might add more RAM down the road and almost for sure will add 1-2 more SSD m.2 drives.
The Strix had 1 extra fan header which I like, I did read somewhere with 4 RAM installed the Maximus no longer supported XMP, not sure if that is addressed in bios updates.
Probably both motherboard exceed what I am doing but I've been very happy with my previous build going with a higher end Asus 7 years ago, it's been stable and cool which is what I want overall.
Based on the relevant hardware you provided, your DDR5 memory is listed in the QVL of the ROG MAXIMUS Z690 HERO, while the ROG STRIX Z790-A GAMING WIFI D4 uses DDR4 memory.
We recommend you refer to [Motherboard] How to query (CPU/memory) QVL List? as one of the considerations when selecting a motherboard.
