Marvell AQtion 10gbit adapter on my X670E Extreme only works every 1-10 bootup

Hey everyone,

since I have bought my ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme in Q1 of 2023 I have issues with the onboard 10gbit NIC from Marvell not working properly. 

The ethernet adapter seems to work only every 1-10 bootup. When it fails I have to either restart the computer as long as the problem occurs (which can be something between 1 reboot or sometimes more) or deactivate->activate the adapter in Windows or disconnect and connect the cable to make it work properly. The Windows Eventviewer shows a warning everytime it fails which you can see in the picture I attached.

I have updated my BIOS, reinstalled Windows 11 several times, used different drivers from either the Asus website or the Marvell website, tried different settings (like Energy Efficient Ethernet mode off) etc. but nothing seems to work.

This really drives me crazy and I wish I could use my (really expensive) mainboard as intended. Is there somebody who has experienced a similar problem? Every little piece of help is appreciated.

Typically, the message "Marvell AQtion 10Gbit Network Adapter: Network link is lost" suggests that the network adapter is unable to recognize the network.
May I inquire if this issue occurs with a wired or wireless connection?
It is advised to verify that each device in the network topology is connected, including the modem's connection to the router, and check for physical damage on the network cables that go to the motherboard or switch.
Please also confirm whether firmware or driver updates are available for the router and any connected devices.
If possible, try connecting to the network via Wi-Fi to see if a connection can be established successfully.

It is not the router or the modem or anything else in the network and it is a wired connection since the Marvell AQtion 10Gbit Network Adapter" is not available as wireless on this specific mainboard. The Intel Nic is working fine on the motherboard and cables have already been changed two times. Anything else that could help?

The ROG CROSSHAIR X670E EXTREME supports both wired and wireless network connections.
May I inquire about the reason for using an external network interface adapter?
Additionally, could you confirm if you are using the Marvell AQtion AQN-107, currently installed in the PCIE X4 slot on the board?

To rule out any potential compatibility issues with the onboard network interface, we suggest either removing the Intel I225/I226 LAN Driver or cross-testing with a different network interface adapter.

Hi @Jiaszzz_ROG 

I am aware of the wireless network adapters, yet there is only a wired Marvell 10G adapter that Asus has installed on this board which I am using. It is NOT an external one, it is not installed in any PCIe slot. I am using the 10G one shown in the picture:

Also I deactivated the Intel NIC in the BIOS. This didn't change anything so far.

I apologize for the confusion.
Regarding your situation, we suggest first referring to the steps outlined in [Motherboard] How to fix the cable network problems of Motherboard – Troubleshooting to confirm if you have tried them all.
Meanwhile, could you please share more details on when the issue of being unable to connect to the Ethernet after most startups occurs? Did it happen after any specific software or hardware changes?
After completing the BIOS 1807 update, have you cleared the CMOS, and is the 10G LAN Card under the BIOS settings > Advanced > Onboard Device Configuration adjusted as [Enabled]?

Make sure you've updated the firmware of your adapter(s) to the lastest version, and are using the latest drivers.

Flash the new firmware to TP-link TX401 - David Yin's Blog (That's the same chipset, so the instructions there will show you how to update the card and driver).

I tried to update the firmware but it says it can't detect the firmware and just shows 0.0.0. instead of an actual version number 😞

Sorry, I read back and hadn't realized that in your case it's a part of the board, I run my marvel 10Gbe adapters as a PCI cards.  My advice probably doesn't apply.

Well, even though it is an onboard NIC it seems to have a similar chipset and according to reddit etc. people are trying the same with their onboard nics. So...it didn't solve my problem but opened another branch of things I can look up, which could lead to a solution. So, thank you!
